SEATTLE — There are dozens of farmers markets in the region, but organizers are planning one with a different flavor.
The Cannabis Farmers Market is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 27 in South Lake Union. Organizers say it will be held at the "Little Red Bistro" on Dexter Avenue and only be open to medical marijuana patients with a written doctor's authorization.

It will be very similar to other monthly events held in Tacoma.

"They've turned people away, if they've showed up with authorization that is questionable in their mind," says Philip Dawdy of the Washington Cannabis Association. He says the event will include growers, who will offer marijuana based products, but only under legal statutes.

"They run a really tight door," says Dawdy.

Tacoma Police expressed concern last year when the market opened there, but TPD spokesperson Mark Fulghum says he knew of no arrests related to the events.

Seattle Police could not be reached for comment on the event.

Jeff Hengst, the owner of the Little Red Bistro, says he will meet with police in advance to make sure the planned event is following all applicable laws.
