Columbus, Ohio - A medical marijuana legalization bill has been sent to Ohio Gov. John Kasich in an effort by state lawmakers to offset support for a proposed fall ballot measure.

The Ohio House approved Senate changes to the bill by a 67-28 vote Wednesday. It cleared the Senate by a narrow 18-15 margin earlier in the evening.

The measure bars patients from smoking or growing marijuana for medical use, but would allow its use in vapor form for certain chronic health conditions.

Ohioans for Medical Marijuana says legislative approval increases the chances for its ballot issue in November. Spokesman Aaron Marshall says it "speaks volumes for eliminating any remaining biases" against doctors recommending marijuana to patients.

Kasich's spokesman says the governor will review the bill when he gets it.
