People United for Medical Marijuana is celebrating a mile stone. The organization has collected more than 100,000 petition signatures in hopes of getting medical cannabis legislation on the ballot. The signature will trigger a supreme court review of the legislation. The organization has suspended its paid petition collection process until after that review.
Efforts to prevent the legalization of the cannabis are also in the works. Organizations like Manatee County Substance Abuse Collision has been working to get the word out about the dangers of the drug. The group saying negatives like addiction and abuse by those not needing the drug medically as reason to prevent it's legalization.
