If marijuana were taxed like cigarettes, it would erase the state and federal budgets financial shortfalls. We are making medical marijuana progress. About eleven states have now legalized medical marijuana.

Many people, medical cannabis users in particular, ask themselves and others, why is the use of cannabis illegal in the United States and other countries? The answer is not as complex as you might imagine. The illegality is based on several factors. Hempseed oil powered the first diesel engine. The powerful petroleum industry does not want farmers to grow their own fuel.

Hemp cloth is better in many ways than cotton. The powerful cotton industry does not want the competition. Hemp makes better paper and other wood substitutes. The powerful timber industry does not want that competition. Cannabis is an excellent medicine for many ailments. The pharmaceutical and medical professions do not want patients to grow their own medicine which is easily possible.

The final reason is really bizarre. It is well known that a person can get a euphoria high or stoned from an overdose of marijuana. This is somewhat like alcoholic inebriation but certainly not as dangerous.

In New Orleans, the rich white college students discovered jazz music by the black musicians, many of whom smoked marijuana. It was cheaper than booze and much easier to carry. The Hearst newspapers knew that listening to jazz music, dancing, and inhaling the marijuana fumes would drive the white kids crazy.

All of the above decided cannabis and marijuana were bad and any use of cannabis even for legitimate medical use must be made illegal and stopped. Well, surprise to nobody, this did not stop marijuana growing and use. It just produced a new industry--bootleg marijuana.

Now even the U.S. government reports that 70,000,000 Americans smoke marijuana and the non-taxable value of the industry is worth at least ten billion dollars per year. British Columbia grows at least that much and probably so does California.

It is not a harmful drug like morphine, alcohol or even aspirin, but highly beneficial. Keep reading, we'll try to cover the whole nine yards.

The Hearst newspapers knew that listening to jazz music, dancing, and inhaling the marijuana fumes would drive the white kids crazy.

I have read that another reason for Hearst (and his newspapers) to promote making hemp illegal was that it was a threat to the paper industry. It was a threat to Hearst's many thousands of acres of timber land from which he produced paper for newspapers.. not just his. Hearst gave less than a shit about college kids.

In the southwest of America ,marijuanna was also demonized as a racist way to stop the influx of mexican immigrants ........as we can all see......that didn't work very well either.

It is only a matter of time that all cannabis products will be regulated and taxed.
The time is nearing when the Marijuana Tax Act will be repealed and all marijuana prohibition will end. The United States will adopt their own policy's, laws, rules and regulations to best fit their indivdual needs.
Taxes from Canadian, Mexican and United States marijuana have the Federal officials frothing at the mouth. They are well aware of the amount of revenue that will be acquired from the Regulation and Taxation of all cannabis products. The number of seizures are drastically up in 2007 along with confiscated properties and cash from the groups / individuals that are being arrested. These same actions were also taken as a precursor to end alcohol prohibition. They infiltrated and wiped out as many " Bootleggers" to accomplish the push and control of alcohol as we all see it today. The same is holding true for cannabis. And the pattern of the Method of Operation is the same model drawn from from the 1930's
It is the Federal Government that will continue to interfere with each State such as they are currently doing.
Soon the United States of Canexico will the most powerful conglomerate known.

California MCDs are being taxed and regulated. The processes for each having begun in earnest state-wide this year. MCDs in SF area have to be up to City/County codes. Wheel chair accessible and washrooms and other improvements are weeding out the renegades.

Sales taxes are presently being collected in California. Tax collectors are making appearances at local MCDs explaining the tax program and making sure that MCDs are aware of their tax status. The BOE (CA Tax collectors) are even checking to see that all edibles are being produced at facilities that are licensed by the CA State Board of Health (another tax revenue source). If not, the BOE is telling MCDs not to carry those edible products.

Goodbye to the "Cowboy" MCDs.. hello to new kids in town..
