i was thinking about just taking the ballast and socket out and buy some good grow hoods with the 6 inch ducts on the sides the cheapest i can find those is 30 bucks a peice on ebay not sure of the over all quality anyone have any hoods for sale or know of a place to get just hoods on the low low?

Cool! Looks like a street lamp. I think, you right, that it is saying you can run either hps or metal halide as long as they are between 150-400W. I'm interested to see how you convert that. Sounds like a very versatile light.
