Metal Halide won't stay lit

Have a brand new Eye Hortilux Blue, 600w metal halide lamp in a used ballast, hooked up to a new VivoSun 1000w dimmable ballast. Have the ballast dimmed to 600w. When I try to turn the lamp on, it comes on for about 8-10 seconds, then shuts off.

Is the ballast defective? Did I get a dud bulb? Is the socket in the reflector shot?

Any trouble shooting tips would he appreciated.
