A 50-year-old Michigan man was reported in custody after he allegedly tried to invoke a medical marijuana claim in an attempt to get out of a *edit* arrest on Saturday.

Mount Pleasant police were called at 9:23 a.m. Saturday about a suspicious man at the Kwik Trip gas station at 943 S. East Frontage Road, located just off I-94 and Highway 20. The caller advised there was a man trying to pump gas who appeared to be under the influence of a drug.

When police arrived, they met with suspect, a 50-year-old man from Michigan, and police said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana, according to a press release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department. According to the release, the man allegedly advised that he had a medical marijuana card issued by the State of Michigan.

According to the release, officers searched the vehicle and found 51 grams of marijuana, several marijuana pipes and about $2,000 in cash.
