Entrepreneurs hoping to break into Michigan's medical marijuana business will have the chance to learn how at a series of five meetings across the state next month.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has scheduled five educational meetings that will walk people through how they can apply for a license and get a demonstration of the state's seed-to-sale tracking system that will track medical marijuana from plants to processed product.

Applications will become available Dec. 15 for five categories of licenses - for growing, processing, testing, transporting and retail selling – and the Michigan Medical Marijuana Licensing Board will begin awarding licenses early next year.

At the educational hearings, applicants won't be able to complete the forms to apply for a license, but they will be able to learn how the process will work.

The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at:

-Nov. 8, Oakland Community College, 27055 Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills

-Nov. 9, Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, University Center

-Nov. 13, Great Wolf Lodge, 3575 North US Highway 31 South, Traverse City

-Nov. 14, Wing's Conference Center, 3600 Vanrick Drive, Kalamazoo

-Nov. 15, Kellogg Conference Center, 219 South Harrison Road, East Lansing

There is no cost to attend the educational sessions, but potential licensees must register at Metrc for the sessions by 5 p.m. on Nov. 1.
