Might As Well Take My Own Advice

Well the story begins in January. My wife and I have planters out back and just tossed a seed in the dirt from a bag. I get nosing a round the planters after a nice warm and low and behold there was a sprout. I said to myself "What the hell do I do now?"

With another freeze coming our way I grabbed a classic red plastic cup (no endorsements ) through a scoop of what ever was in the planter and transplanted that lil booger.

Now I already hear yall throw a hissy but hey as the name emplies im a noob! I put a 100w equivalent led light bulb at 6500k in a piece of drier vent about 18" long to confine the light. It took off nicely.

Well a bit goes by and said hummmm why not. I bought an 18 gal container, closed in a 2' room in my closet, bought a 2' t8 2 bulb fixture and through the 6500ks on there. I bought my bottles of nutes and all went to town. I had no idea what i was doing.

I had been studdying hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics for verticle farming. With a tight budget I thought wth. After setting up the dwc with 2 6" ish airstones in the bottom and the light hung above I was cooking. I decide why not germ some more while im at it. I put 9 seeds in a plastic seed starter from the box store. All 9 of them darn bag seeds sprouted. I culled them down to 5 then down to 2. I put them in the dwc. Now the first plant has to be a month old vegging under 34 watts of light. To get everything the same height i topped the old one and let it sprawl.

Last weekish (sorry I have a horrible memory) I had a buddy give me 3 boxes of 100w led bulbs at 2700k. I removed the lenses off the bulbs and wired them up with the 2' and added another box plus 2 6500ks laying around.

I had decided to go ahead and see what we have growing. Roughly 50% of my base was full.
And really getting antsy.
Thankfully I believe the largest is a female and the younger ones have not sexed yet. I will post pics in a bit.

Here is pics from goofing off. If someone could verify the sex that would be awesome!

Hey, you cant beat hands-on experience bro. It sounds like you have a decent grasp on what Cannabis needs, but in case yiu need help, I started out by reading a lot of Rosenthals work (Ed Rosenthal). He has a few really good books, especially his "Grower's Handbook" or his "Marijuana Grower's Guide" are very helpful and easy to read. If you decide to read, believe it or not, I swear on this, his 1978 version is all you need. Rosenthal and Cervantes were decades ahead of the curve with regard to things like Mychorrizae, Nutrients, and organics. Keep it up! You wont regret it! Bigger roots, bigger fruits, mate. Cheers!

Those look like female pistils. If they indeed are, youll see the white pistil extend out further and the little green, tear-drop shaped piece that holds it at its base is its calyx. If it was male it would look like this: (5 images of male stamen)

And just some pictures to look at. The orange thing floating an airstone because it was making to much noise. Its the red line and the blue line is an ice pack to cool the water.

Day4 of flower:

Well the money went dry till the first of next month. This grow was set up as a (kratsky spelling?) Style grow with air stones. I have nearly 15 gal left of solution so running out of solution is not a concern of mine. However, nutrients are a huge concern. The ec and ph has been holding very stable.
Unfortunately my less than good Chinese 3 way meter is way out of calibration and not is not taking trim changes on the ec. After the first of the month I will be buying good meters. Lessons learned.

Yesterday I pulled the runt out of the bucket and trained number one into that space. Figured this a nice healthy female might as well let her strech and soak up that light.

Number 2 has not yet showed sex that I can see. I will keep a close eye on it but im honestly perfectly content with my largest going female. I believe i could fill the entire space with just her.

I missed my window to take clones in veg. Im wandering the pros and cons of taking lower branches in flower and putting them under 24 hr light. I would like 3 cuttings so I can roll straight into my second grow.

@InTheShed whats your take?

After creating this journal I realize it goes against the norms of what these journals are supposed to be about. However, for me I need huge advancement in journaling and expression. To even put to practice, the basis of my ever curious mind, a logical and coherent plan is huge steps. I did have the full intent on tracking ph, ec, temp of water, temp at canopy but my cheap meter failed me. I will get back on track.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement.

I look foreward to getting back into school to learn how to continue advancing the sciences of plants. Right now its all amazing. I believe I want to follow the photosynthetic reactions to solar radiation and the employment of that data to the development of the most efficient systems. Right now the science of leds is making huge swings into the world of agriculture as a whole.

I love you tube for its ability to capture current thought. I will be sighting it alot to refrence to my ideas and thoughts. It is my intent to keep this a perpetual work that not only covers the growth of my plants but also my own life and career. Pull up a stump, a sand bag, rocking chair, lazy boy, coutch and grab your bowel, brownie, pipe, j, or blunt and lets take this journey.

Here we are. Another day into the grow. The weather outside is cold and miserable. Ok its not that bad its 62 but the rain and wind are not something I prefer. I have made a nice spot inside of my grow area where I can take my pencil and paper and enjoy the nice warmth and light also enjoyed by my girl and the undeclared plant number 2.

I will never need to suplement co2 while in there. Im full of enough hot air, as my grandpa would say.

Speaking of my grandpa it reminds me of my start in plants and agriculture as a whole. I spent most of my impressionable years sitting under grain waggons, riding on tractor fenders or choking to death on soy dust. Boy those were days.

Any who; I managed to take some pictures of the midday check and training.

I'll post those and see where it goes.

Is there a better time of the day to take a cutting? Stress in the morning? Give her all night to recover in the cooler night air when the starches are being created or stress in the morning where it is actively collecting energy and obsorbing nutrients?

To answer those questions another day.

4/20 was bitter sweet. Was a wonderful with family. Now good news bad news.

Plant 2 dropped balls and was removed from the room. It was not only removed, it was was moved to downstarirs and bagged.

Now I'm down to one. She is doing well though. Been a great day but a long day. Hope everyone had a wonderful day.
