Rochester's new medical marijuana dispensary is set to open Thursday.
It is located near Shopko off Broadway Avenue and East Circle Drive.
Dr. Kyle Kinglsey at Minnesota Medical Solutions says the northeast location made sense.
"We wanted something that was cost effective," Kingsley said.
The Harmony native says Rochester beat out Mankato in the first congressional district for the entrepreneurial business.
Officials say they've already started working with some of the major medical players in town.
"It was important to us that our medications were compliant with their inpatient systems, so that they can give it to their patients on an in-patient basis as needed," Kingsley said. "And we were pretty excited to actually have that happen here last week. We had a patient that was actually able to stay on their medication while hospitalized at [Mayo Clinic]. That is definitely not the norm."
But with Rochester's dispensary opening Thursday, it could happen more often and ease burdens of local patients, officials say.
Their goal is to offer a patient experience similar to any other medical clinic, complete with a patient waiting room and toys for kids.
