Montana Medical Marijuana Should Be Available To Patients

The people of Montana legalized medical marijuana by voter approval, but the legislation is taking away what the people voted for. The elected officials are supposed to be for the people, not to go against their wishes just to serve their own. This is what the Montana Supreme Court should be concerned with.

Many people have medical conditions that they are successfully treating with medical marijuana that they obtain from a pharmacy. They have a medical card issued by the state. When you shut down the pharmacy, there becomes no access to fill their prescription.

Not everyone wants to take narcotic pain medicine for chronic pain. They are addicting and deadly, and once you start, there is never an end to it. In May 2013, my sister died from a 10-year addiction to narcotic pain pills prescribed by doctors. All of her organs slowly shut down and after three weeks in a coma, she passed away. She was 51 years old.

People need a choice regarding their medicine. If medical marijuana keeps people from dying from other medications, it needs to be available to patients. Not only is it about making the right choice for your medical treatment, it's a matter of having the right to make that choice. Montana already voted for the choice.
