Montpelier Votes For Decriminalization

VT - Montpelier officials were easily re-elected on Tuesday despite a controversy about an overpayment to a contractor.

City officials waited several years before disclosing that they'd overpaid the contractor by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

But Mayor Mary Hooper easily held off a challenge. And City Council member Nancy Sherman won re-election against two challengers.

The city's municipal budget and its school budget also passed.

And, Montpelier voters say the state should decriminalize marijuana possession.

The nonbinding resolution says Vermont should make possession of small amounts of marijuana punishable only by a civil fine, not by criminal charges.

What is needed is more and more lil burgs passing decrim. laws or ordinances,as once a state has a few of them then the State Legislature seems to finally take notice.

That is when they cannot really quietly refuse to acknowledge the voters wishes.

Heres more good news : "L.A. sued over new medical marijuana law" A lawsuit filed tues. challenges L.A.s crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries , claiming it would force nearly all of them to close .The suit was filed by the nations largest marijuana advocacy group and accused the city of violating the state constitutional rights of pot clinic operators and claims the city ordinance "deprives the seriously ill of the medicine promised them by the electorate and the legislature of California. Excellent steps in the March toward Decrim!

I bet if we all became advocates in our own towns, we could have this effect all over the country.
