NASA experimenting with LED grow lights

In vol 3 issue 1 of SKUNK in an article called growing off the grid they mention nasa is experimenting with LED's for growing pot in outer space.

That doesn't make sense, why is NASA growing pot in outer space? I wonder how the plant would grow in a 0 G environment. I know Urdedpal would experiment with that, he loves to try new techniques. That bud might be a bit pricey to buy on the streets.
