NBT: First Grow Bagseeds Outdoor

Hey,NBT,plants are looking super good and healthy!
If the flies you're talking about are soil gnats,Mosquito dunks will
get rid of them in a week or so.
Just drop half of one dunk in your plant water 24 hours before you use it- the dunk will populate the water with BTI, a bacteria that's toxic to soil gnat larva (and mosquito larva, obviously :) ) but totally harmless to your plants.
The larva in the soil will ingest the BTI and die-then you just wait 3 days or so for the adults to die,and you'll be gnatless.
I've been using it for about 8 months, and in that time period I've had about 6 soil gnats.
The soil I use (Black Magic) comes with soil gnats,so I also innoculate it for about a month before I use it.
The dunks are about 7 bucks at Home Depot or Lowes.
Thanks carcass! Appreciate the kind words and great tip! I was thinking they are as some usually fly up when I get close to the soil. The sticky pad has caught a few but I'll definitely be going down tomorrow to check it out and see if I can find some!

A quick but great news update! I had success finding a dehumidifier today in the least likely place I thought for the price I paid. Checked a couple local thrift stores and one that usually has stuff overpriced actually had a newer digital display dehumidifier for $20! Even better, its rated for up to 2000sq/f so should have no problem fixing the humidity in a 300 sq/f shed. I found lesser units with just turn dials in the used ads for $100 or more so I'm super pumped! :slide:

The only slight downfall was it was absolutely filthy so I just spent 2 hours cleaning the filter and razor thin fins and wiping down the dirt and scraping paint spots and it now looks like new! So far seems to run great too but a few hours will tell as I couldn't see the element to see if its frosting. Fingers crossed

Success! :slide: I'm not sure which is correct. The temp humidity thing or the dehumidifier but the temp one says 49% and dehumidifier says 58. I cant remember if I set cutoff at 50 or 55 but either way.. both gauges are showing a vast improvement over the 70-80 I've seen the last week. Fan is now turned back to 1. Also, as hoped the dehumidifier is bringing up the overall temperature.. up about 5c which is ideal as it's now sitting around 20c just after sundown. I'll check the nighttime low in the morning. It's been dipping to as low as 2c outside at night now but I think the shed stayed at 10c as it's almost airtight. Hoping to see the overnight temp sit at 15c tonight.

So I get to my local gardening store this morning talking to the usual resident expert (he grows girls at home too in hydro) and he suggested to avoid the dunk as its overkill for the minor condition of my gnats and said since they haven't gotten out of hand yet I can get more effective sticky traps for the adults and kill by hand and a topical soil treatment of peroxide to treat and kill larvae and after 1 or 2 treatments the cycle should be broken. His advice has never let me down yet so I got some more traps and already have peroxide. Especially since the dehumidifier is running now the girls are dry enough they'll likely droop by end of day and ready to be watered so today they're getting a full gallon (or until runoff) of full strength nutes that I mixed last night before lights out and I've drilled a drainage hole on each container (yes only 1 each) to monitor runoff and make sure I dont over water. The hole is 3/4-1" above bottom to leave a tiny water table for the tap root.

So last night humidity dropped to 38% and temp held at 15.4c so that's great news as it dropped to 2c outside. The dehumidifier rez was full. Humidity was 61% when I entered the shed and has already dropped to 52% after the dehumidifier was emptied. Its preset to 50%. I expected to get a large amount of water out of the environment within the first 24 hours but if the filling of the pan per 24 hour period or less becomes a problem, the dehumidifier supports continuous drain. I'll just need to find a hose as it didn't have one with it.

Finished watering before posting so I can say there was no runoff. Hopefully they'll explode with the first full dose of nutrients. Working the next 4 days so next update will be Tuesday.

Until next time, happy growing!

Hey guys, looking for recommendations. I'm rather devastated. I finally found my lute and was admiring the girls and realized I still have mites. This late into flower..any suggestions to eradicate or reduce their numbers until harvest?

That’s good!

But I mean, you say he’s a hydro grower.. hydro is a bit different then when grown in soil. Hopefully he’s grown in soil before as well, and knows from experience. Not to say he doesn’t know his stuff, just thought I’d mention that.

That’s a nice biz hole, but in my opinion, the more holes the better. You want the best drainage possible!

I would drill a 1/4” hole, ring around that big hole. I would even get the 1/8” bit out and drill a few of those, in the left out areas. That’s just me though :thumb:

What kind of mites? Spider mites, russet mites, broad mites..

I’ve thought about drilling more but I am trying to make due as I don’t intend to grow again in those containers. I’d like to get some cloth pots. I was hoping to make use of them for storage again later.

I didn’t know there were so many kind of mites. Just assumed they were spider. I got a soap spray and treated last night after lights out and checked them and they seem better today. There are way less. I’m going to treat again tomorrow night at lights out.

Do you have a jewlers loupe? You should try and get a picture of one, next time you see one.
I do have one but couldn't seem to get it to focus with my phone camera. I have a better one somewhere, just can't find it.

Can you change the phone's camera setting to portrait?

I have a pro mode but it only seems to give me access to white balance and iso and EV I think? It does also allow me to cycle thru spot, center weighted, and matrix metered. It's a shitty Sammy a5

Ah ok, I have the sam g7, it gives me the portrait option for better pictures close up.

Nice! I used to have flagship phones all the time but got fed up paying an arm and a leg so switched carriers but they only offered budget devices. I put up with this 2 years now. I used to be an android fanboy being a power user techie background but I got fed up with my unstable samsung tablet so bought an ipad pro. I used to stay away because of no file system and hard to get mp3s on apple but since I now just pay for Spotify and apple finally giving a file manager which is only getting better... I'm reconsidering. Now that I have an ipad pro and loving it I'm actually considering the iphone 11 so I will have a better phone soon but that doesn't help now haha

Hey guys an early morning quick update before I head off to work. I sprayed the girls a second time since last update. 2 days apart and at lights out. Last night I went to empty the dehumidifier and checked quickly.and didnt see any on UK1 but UK2 still seems to have a few. I separated them so they're not touching. Hopefully tonight I'll have time to flush UK1 with some water to get the soap off in Hope's it doesn't change the taste to much and UK2 will get a 3rd spray down of soap. Hoping to go leaf by leaf this time. I'm also going to water both with only water as they both seem to have sucked back that gallon each they got a few days ago. I might have to water until runoff and drill a few more holes first. I'll update again tonight or tomorrow.

I leave you guys with 1 lonely pic I snapped after lights out with flash on. Some early bud porn hehe

Have a great day everyone!

Yes! That sounds like a great idea!!

You should always water, until you have run off.

Have I told you my BLT watering technique?

Nice pic bro!!

You as well! Have a great day!

Thanks for the kind words!! I think I'm just going to give in and drill more hholes and write off the bins lol. Figure the roots will get better air flow if I have several of them while watering.

No, I don't believe you have. I may have read it in your current grow if you posted it but can't remember as I've done do much reading and research on here it's hard to keep straight. I have read your entire thread though. Care to share again? *passes left* :passitleft:

I don’t think I ever put it in my thread. A matter a fact, I never have. I really should, now that you reminded me.

I’ve posted it on other people’s threads but never my own lol.

I’m just battling my daughter right now, trying to get her to eat super. I will be taking her to bed here shortly. So I will try and post it here later. :thumb:

Thanks for sticking with me on my journal! Means a lot!

Plants love BLT sandwiches. (Bacon lettuce tomato)

When A plant gets fed a BLT, but your not feeding properly, I.e- under watering.

You feed your plant and not see run off, they get a lot of bacon, a lil lettuce and a lil to no tomato.

They seem dry again, so you feed them again.

Again, they get a lot of bacon, a lil lettuce and zero to no tomato, plus the left over scraps from the BLT from before, giving improper feeding, and can lead to a over feeding of one nutrient or the other, as well as causing a nutrient deficiency.

When you feed a plant with proper watering techniques, you feed a BLT, putting water in the top of the pot, letting it drain, then pouring more water in, let it drain so on and so forth until you see run off.

Your feeding the plant the entire Bacon, lettuce, and tomato. This technique ensures you that the roots are getting fed the entire BLT, as well as ensuring you that the water is pulling oxygen down to the roots along with the nutrients, because oxygen is just as important to the roots as the nutrients are.

Hey everyone. Been slack on the updates as I've been working a lot again but I checked in on my plants today and I assume they are deficient in something but unsure what. There is so much info about yellowing online I cant tell what mine is. Any help would be appreciated.
