Franklin, N.H. - A medical marijuana dispensary has been proposed in Franklin, New Hampshire, after the state passed a law allowing seriously ill residents to use marijuana to treat their illnesses.

Paul Morrissette, who owns Regal Auction Services and several other commercial properties in Franklin, tells the Concord Monitor he's working with a Massachusetts organization to develop an application.

Morrissette estimates 3,000 patients could use the site. Franklin is about 30 minutes from five hospitals and an hour from about a dozen.

New Hampshire has until Jan. 23, 2015, to select at least two "alternative treatment centers." At most, the state will license four centers divided among four geographical areas.

A similar proposal has been introduced in Epping.
