A Newport Beach doctor charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession in 2008 may also have his physician and surgeon license revoked, according to court documents filed with the Medical Board of California.
Dr. Paul F. Reardon, 54, was pulled over in Laguna Niguel after authorities received a call about someone suspected of driving under the influence on Nov. 13, 2007, according to court documents.
Reardon, who lives in Laguna Beach and practices in Newport Beach, was picking up his children from karate lessons. The responding deputy sensed a "strong odor of marijuana," according to documents released to the media Wednesday.
Reardon was found with 16.36 grams of marijuana, rolling papers, one joint and one smoked joint, records show. The case was dismissed in February 2008, after Reardon completed proof of completing an eight-hour drug-diversion program.
In 2006, Reardon was reprimanded for "clearly excessive prescribing to an addict," records show.
Reardon was not available for comment Thursday. His private psychiatry practice, Newport Coast Mental Health, is located near Fashion Island. His state medical license was issued in 1991 and is set to expire at the end of this month.
Jenny Long, 27, who has been working as an office manager for about two years at Reardon's practice, said he is "a great person and great doctor."
"He does medicine management and therapy, which is uncommon," Long said. "He's very caring and takes his time with [his patients]."
