There's a flaw in this system, if a person was using Fox from and before the roots hit the dwc, when you go water your plant the drain off would go into the net pot then into the res, I know it's simple to clean out but I wouldn't mix the dirt minerals with the dwc. But after the roots hit the bottom you yu wouldn't have to water from the top anymore, eh, maybe the price as me. Lol

Ye looked over the octopot before & works on a wicking system but not seen any grows with them on the forums as far as i am aware.

Heard of people using wicking before for growing MMJ who have claimed it works well but pic's results i have not seen ? may require a good look around tho over other sites !

The only negative comment i've seen is that it may not supply enough water via capillary action/wicking for larger plants ? but then again think about how big the wick is to do this !

It is just how good the capillary action is of materials used or grow medium...

Soil, compost, coco coir should be just fine even inert mediums such as perlite with a mix of vermculite should do fine, not sure about clay pebbles etc

DIY is a good option & much cheaper with this style of growing.

One of the grow shop owners near me has a picture on display where the one grown in soil is about half the size of the one grown in an octopot all of the grow stores around here swear by them but the price has me staying away for now the one owner says he just let's them grow naturally no topping or training and gets 2lb from 4 plants under 1 1000w light 3 week veg but he also has an unlimited supply of all of the nutrients he could ever want

got a joint dr. ogre auto in a 6 gal. octopot at week 4 and a widows peak auto in 5 gal. smart pot in coco/perlite also week 4 widows peak is almost 1/3rd bigger/ wider than the ogre. could be genetics too but getting same nutes. the ogre started slow but is now starting to catch up on the w.p. used coco/ perlite in both. amended the octopot with worm castings too. both getting g.h flora w/ cal/mag. they say you use 1/2 nutes in octopots. b.s! I've been running full nutes on the ogre the whole time! actually had to dial back the N on the w.p as i was getting N toxicity / the claw. the ogre is a lot lighter green too. we'll see how it goes! ill follow this up as it goes along. wish i knew how to post pics. old skool! ;)

I've just made my own octopot. That roots have just touched down... can't wait to see the results..

I'm hoping I don't run int problems like mould on the sleeve or light hitting the res.. also I'm hoping the process that oxygenated the water happens properly. The difference with mine is instead of 6 gallon I have 35l tubs filled about 25ls of water at 5.3ph... hopefully I get to leave it longer then 10 days per feed, it's a test run though with my runt plant see what happens.
