MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- A Middletown police officer was arrested Friday following a state police investigation into the disappearance of four bags of marijuana from the town police department's evidence locker.

News Channel 10's Brian Crandall reported that Michael Braley was charged with larceny, obstruction of justice and possession of marijuana. The officer was released on $10,000 personal recognizance.

The drugs were reported missing from the evidence locker May 17, one day after the evidence was seized. The town police chief called on the state police to investigate.

Eighteen officers were questioned as part of the investigation. Braley, 42, was questioned Friday morning and arrested.

Only two officers had keys to the locker. Braley was not one of them.

Police have not recovered the marijuana. They think it was discarded.
