OH: Moraine Plan Says No To Medical Marijuana

A proposal to prohibit medical marijuana operations in Moraine is set to be discussed tonight.

The Moraine Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a ban that "would apply to all zoning districts," according to City Planner Mike Hammes.

Last week the city extended a moratorium on medical marijuana, allowing time for the city to finalize this proposal, according to Hammes.

That followed a February vote by Moraine City Council to extend its moratorium on medical marijuana 180 days. That action followed the legalization of the drug for those purposes, which took effect last September.

Under Ohio's new program, three state agencies – Department of Commerce, Board of Pharmacy and State Medical Board – will oversee regulations for growers, doctors, patients and dispensaries.

State authorities are currently writing rules for processors, testing labs and dispensaries and are considering applications from companies vying for 24 cultivator licenses.

Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Moraine Municipal Building, 4200 Dryden Road.
