More than 100 applications for medical marijuana processing licenses were turned in to the Ohio Department of Commerce by the Dec. 15 deadline.

The department will authorize up to 40 licenses, and some will likely be in northwest Ohio. While the list of 104 applicants released by the state Wednesday does not indicate where those companies propose to put their facilities, some had already applied for cultivation licenses, or had asked the Toledo Plan Commission to sign notices for proper zoning.

A pair of applicants already have provisional licenses for cultivation sites. Standard Wellness Company has proposed a medical marijuana business in the Gibsonburg's Clearview Industrial Park on the eastern edge of town, and was given a provisional Level I cultivator license, meaning it can have a grow operation of up to 25,000 square feet.

OhioGrow LLC, which has proposed a cultivation site at 367 E. State Line Rd. in Toledo, was given approval for a Level II cultivation license, which means it can have up to 3,000 square feet of grow space.

Under the name Ohio Green Grow, the company has proposed processing sites at its East State Line Road location and at 4010 South Ave. The plan commission also received requests from GTI Ohio, LLC for 0 Jason St., and Natural Meds, LLC for 1607 Coining Dr.

House Bill 523, the Ohio law that last year legalized marijuana for medical use only, left it up to state agencies to determine the rules for medical marijuana's cultivation, processing, and sale.

The state released the names of businesses that applied for the licenses and a contact name. More relevant information about the applications, including where the businesses propose to operate, has not been made public
