Bend, Oregon — A 3 percent sales tax on recreational marijuana is being considered by The Bend City Council for the November ballot.

The tax would be the first sales tax in Bend.

The City Council must approve the tax and then it will go before Bend voters in November.

Presently, there's a 25 percent state tax on recreational marijuana, but that will drop to 17 percent when the Oregon Liquor Control Commission takes control of the program.

State law does not allow the city to adopt more than a 3 percent tax — medical marijuana would be exempt from the taxes.
