Recreational marijuana use will become legal in Oregon July 1, but there won't be anywhere to buy it. The state won't start licensing marijuana retailers until 2016.

Republican Sen. Ted Ferrioli wants to change that with a proposal that would allow current medical marijuana dispensaries to start selling pot for recreational use in July.

The bill is still in committee and hasn't gone to a vote yet.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is in the process of establishing policies and procedures for marijuana sales.

It will begin issuing licenses for business in January.
