CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet — Combined anti-narcotic and police operatives uprooted and destroyed at least R54 million worth of marijuana plants near the boundary of Benguet and La Union recently.

Superintendent Joker Cuanso, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director for Cordillera, said that approximately 32,400 marijuana plants were destroyed — 24,000 or R40 million worth in Sitio Apana, Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet, and 8,400 or R14 million worth in Sitio Cutali, Sapda, Santol, La Union.

Earlier, R111 million worth of marijuana plants seized from 19 plantation sites in Bakun, Kibungan and Kapangan, Benguet were destroyed by authorities and two people were arrested while transporting 742 kilos of marijuana bricks through a checkpoint in Bontoc, Mountain province.

Cuanso said their recent success against marijuana trading is due to the help of tipsters among concerned residents.
