A medical-marijuana grower-processor recently completed the transaction through which it bought an industrial property on Pa. 316 in Chambersburg.

GR Properties Chambersburg LLC, a real-estate entity for AES Compassionate Care, purchased 1086 Wayne Ave. for $3.7 million, according to deed transfer records.

The property behind World Harvest Outreach features a 75,000-square-foot building on 10.93 acres.

Illinois-based AES Compassionate Care won one of Pennsylvania's first grower-processor permits awarded in June for the state's new medical-marijuana industry.

The state authorized 12 growers to develop cannabis for the 17 medical conditions approved under Pennsylvania Act 16 of 2016. The law allows for marijuana in pills, liquids, topical ointments and other forms of nonsmokable medication.

A representative of AES Compassionate Care did not return a reporter's call Friday.

In a previous interview, co-founder and principal Matt Darin said the Chambersburg location is within a one-hour drive of the company's facility in Carroll County, Md.

Franklin County Area Development Corp. sold the property to AES Compassionate Care.

The cannabis company "is in the process of renovating the facility with the anticipation that production could start as early as December. When fully operational, the facility is expected to employ 50-plus full-time workers," FCADC President L. Michael Ross wrote in an email.

Medical-marijuana dispensaries operated by other entities are planned for a former Sheetz store on Wayne Avenue and a parcel in front of Tractor Supply Co. on U.S. 30.
