The Palm Desert Public Safety Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend that the city adopt a permanent ban on the licensing of medical marijuana dispensaries.

The commission had received a draft of a law to allow dispensaries from city attorney David Erwin, but voted for a ban instead, Erwin said in a phone interview today.

It is uncertain when the City Council will consider the ban.

Palm Desert has one of the Coachella Valley's two dispensaries: CannaHelp located at 73-350 El Paseo. The city revoked the dispensary's license last December, after renewing it two months earlier.

CannaHelp remains open, as does the Palm Springs Safe Access Collectives at 333 N. Palm Canyon Drive, which is also operating without a license.

Both cities have moratoriums on dispensaries in force.
