P.S. I read somewhere than the best time to harvest is when most of the hairs retract. Some of your pics still show all-white straight out growing hairs - I would def. wait on those. How long has it been?
Fan leaves turning yellow is also a good indicator IMHO

thanks Android..

I'm not a big fan of harvesting by looking at the hairs turn, but it can be a good indicator.. I dont believe yellowing of leaves to be any kinda way to read harvest peek time

I look at the resin, the trichomes.. actually I look at all the street-hash I see passing through my hands too.. my handheld microscope is a bit famous around here;)

I'm looking for someone who has expirence with papaya(mango).. how dos the resin change with this strain? Will this plants trichomes turn amber? or do I have to harvest as they turn milky?

Papaya(mango) is a hybrid sativa and indica.. but to my understanding mostly indica..
and fully matured indicas produce amber resin at peekness but sativas are best harvested then 50-80% of trichomes has turned from clear to milky white translucent color.

I tried the microscope way before, and was always confused by what I was seeing - it was hard for me to judge the color or the cloudiness of the trichomes. I waited and waited, but it looked like some plants just sat there without much change for weeks and weeks. Microscope was telling me that they weren't done yet, but they were.

So I stopped doing that, and instead started relying on other indicators - I look at hairs, and for slight amberish hue when looking at bud with a naked eye out of focus in a bright light

Okay thanks Android I do think it's a step back for u..
If u wanna harvest at the best time u need to pick up when this time is.. I know u can just have a look at ur plants without a scope and judge them ready for harvest.. but looking at ur plants close up will tell u a lot more than the naked eye..(this goes for almost anything in the world) this u can use for comparing with the next harvest.. and the next one and the next...
I'll say pick up ur scope again at start looking close up, You gotta practice first before u really can tell;)

55 days of 12/12

Take a look at the resin and plz tell me what U think.. :geek:

Gonna wait another week before chopping (in hope of more mass and weight gain) or should I just hit it now? :scratchinghead:

Anyone got experience with Nirvana-Papaya??? :adore:

2012-10-28_16_49_45.jpg

i know this was a while ago, i just discovered that this journal was not in my subscribed list for some reason so i have missed most of it so far. =(

to me these look almost completely clear with possible hints at cloudyness in places.
if you look carefully you will see that the apparent amber shades you can see are not from the trichs at all but from refracted light, quite probably orange light reflecting off the pistils.

when i first started looking at trichs this amber light always confused me into thinking they are more done than they are.

just look at the 'stalks' of the top half, beautifully clear, with hints of refracted light and pure light spots here and there....well formed but young trichs imho

thanks man

the color on the pic sux and I know it - It's taken with a mobile phone cam through a handheld microscope - very hard to control the light. It's hard to see on the pics but they are milky white ca. 50% i'll try taking some new better pics

have u tryed growing papaya? old name is mango.. will this strains resin turn amber? or should it be harvested milky?

harvest time is entirely based on preference. rule of thumb is preference +10% amber for sativa.

so if you like a couchlock buzz harvest when amber dominant, if you like a clear soaring high then harvest when dominantly clear/cloudy.
as indicated above you can let a sativa dominant go like 10% longer than other plants to be at the same place.

i personally would harvest the moment i have 1 confirmed amber trich, that would give it a nice wind down effect by the time its cured.

to my knowledge papaya is mostly indica.. u got any rule of thump for this:confused:

and im a fan of couchlock buzz :tokin:

I normally did this with bubblegum and white widow.. but is this the way to go with papaya ?:scratchinghead:

I grew this strain and thought I'd give my opinion in case anyone was considering giving it a try. Enjoy.

Nirvana's Papaya

Ordered direct from Nirvana

Veged approx 4 weeks - 14'' - 16'' tall under 600 watt MH & supplemental lighting

Flowered approx 91/2 weeks. approx 32'' tall under 600 watt HPS supplemental lighting.

Ease of grow - Very easy to grow. Very forgiving. Recommended for beginners or people who are horticulturally challenged.

Aroma - Very sweet but mild. Did not stink up the house. Really didn't smell very much until late in flower.

Flavor - Excellent! Very sweet and fruity taste that lingers. Flower longer to really bring out the flavor.

Yeild - Great yielder. Truly dense massive buds.

Potency - She is quite potent. It's the couch lock stone everyone talks about. Flower longer for a stonier buzz.

Over All Rating - 9 - It's a staple in my garden.

Comments - She is a very potent and flavorful indica dominant strain. Very stable genetically and accepted nutes very well. This plant was all pros and no cons for those looking for a heavier stone. I really don't know why this strain isn't more popular.

hope this helps you make your plans =)

Thanks for advice. I also think my scope sucks, and the batteries are nearly dead now. Maybe I should get something better next time, a one that can take pictures would be nice. In a meanwhile I use a magnifying glass - gives me about the same idea as my 30x scope, but without messing with the viewfinder and the right distance and all that. I agree - this is a temporary measure and I need to improve on that in order to get the timing just right for supreme quality in the end
