New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk will give anti-drug talks at Lafayette Parish schools as part of his sentence for a no contest plea to misdemeanor marijuana charges.
Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana after a sheriff’s deputy found four marijuana cigarettes in his jacket during a routine search while Faulk was on his way to a suite in the Cajundome for a Lil Wayne concert in February.
Judge Herman Clause gave Faulk, a Louisiana native and LSU graduate, a suspended five-month sentence on Tuesday, according to the clerk of court’s office in Lafayette Parish.
He also was sentenced to 40 hours of community service – the lectures at Lafayette Parish middle and high schools – and 20 hours of NFL-approved substance abuse treatment. He must spend a year on supervised probation, but that could end early if he does everything else called for under the plea.
He also must pay a $300 fine, $231 in court costs and $250 to the Lafayette Police Department to reimburse the department for a drug analysis.
Faulk said Monday that he is “focusing on football and getting ready for the season,” The (Lafayette) Daily Advertiser reported.
Faulk reports for camp with the Patriots on July 23.
