MANSFIELD -- The Ohio Highway Patrol took 160 pounds of marijuana off the streets this weekend.

Trooper Neil Laughlin of the Mansfield post arrested two women on charges of aggravated drug trafficking and felony possession of marijuana. Daynise L. Lowman, 24, of Philadelphia and Rebecca M. Hampton, 25, of Sikeston Mo., are in the Richland County Jail pending an arraignment today in Mansfield Municipal Court.

The two were traveling on U.S. 30 at 7:02 p.m. Friday when they were stopped by Laughlin for traffic violations at Koogle Road. Laughlin reported seeing several drug courier indicators during initial contact.

A drug detection dog from Ashland County Sheriff's Department was brought in, then alerted to the outside of the 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis, indicating the presence of narcotics.

A search revealed the 160 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trunk, troopers said. The street value was estimated at $355,000.
