Perpetual Capn Style Grow Tent Rockwool

Welcome to my new grow journal.

I think I'll call this one "third time lucky"
I have did a small closet grow that taught me a lot! After that I got a 1.5mx1.5mx2m grow tent and scaled things up a bit. It was going great and then BAM! I had to move, just when flowering started. Safe to say no such things are going to happen this time. I have a lot of space now and planning on building a dedicated grow room(s)

I still had seeds from Nirvana, only problem is they are almost 3 years old. To my surprise, they did germinate.

I live in South Africa, so getting all the things I need is a nightmare (unlike all the Americans on here). Lucky for me I love DIY and a challenge. The goal, as efficient and as cheap as possible. Most of the equipment I figured out on the previous grow and this time I simply refined most of it. Let's have a look at them:

CONTROL PANEL:
Lets start with my favorite. This control panel took me a lot of time and effort to build. I'm very proud of it.
It controls the watering, lights on/off, heat on, cooler on, current RH, current temp and toggle switches to turn of everything individually.

SWAMP COOLER:
Because a A/C unit is expensive and uses a lot of energy I read up on swamp coolers.
At the bottom is a reservoir tank with a water pump. Inside the cooler is fish tank filters with water lines overhead spraying them wet. The air gets sucked through cooling and humidifying it.
The thermostat is connected to the water pump so whenever temps go over 28 deg it switches on until it reaches 24 deg. I cannot tell you how good this thing works. It can bring 24 deg air down to 18 deg and pushes RH by up to 30%. After the in-line fan is a in-line heater that is also connected to the thermostat

AIR COOLED REFLECTOR:
This one was simple. Bought some sheet metal and bent it into shape. Perspex bottom and made holes on the side for the air.

WATERING:
This manifold works good for now. I have watering rings (DIY of course) but they're to big for now.
Once I've transplanted into bigger pots I'll use it.

THE SETUP:
Super happy about this new location. Watch this space!

If anyone wants more detail on any of the above, I'll be happy to give more info

I'll try my best to stick to a weekly update

Quick update DAY 9

Wonder woman:

Looks good and healthy

Aurora indica:
20160909_155819.jpg

It's nice and green but she has slightly curled up leaves. Measured the temp right next to her and was 27 deg (80F) so it's in her range. Any ideas what it might be?

THE CLONER
I added another shelf for the cloner and hung a 24w CFL above it with a switch to turn it off when i don't need it. All nice and neat.

IN THE PIPE LINE
Some advice needed here. I've read up on lots of different ways to generate CO2 and a gas burning generator seems to be the easiest to make and definitely the cheapest option. My question, is it possible to make a in-line gas burner? It will suck air outside and then connect to my current system (after the burner it will continue to the swamp cooler). The reason I want it outside is to keep the tent temps down using the swamp cooler to cool the hot gas

To control the PPM I'd like to use Arduino for this. I have been looking for a reason to get one for ages. It will work by using a electronic solenoid valve, CO2 meter, electronic ignitor and infrared sensor to kill the gas when the flame is not lit for safety. I found THIS tutorial for more detail

So, anyone think this is possible and does anyone have any experience with CO2 gas generators? I honestly can't see why not.

Here's a sketch to illustrate my concept

note: side panel removed to see inside

The reason for the two plates above the burner is to give the air a longer path to travel. It might bring temps down a bit.

DAY 17
Wonder Woman:

Leaves are a lighter green than I'm used to but otherwise all is well and growing strong

Aurora Indica:

Almost ready for a bigger pot I'd say

THE NEW GROW LIGHT
Currently I have a 250w MH. I'll need another light on the veg side to pull off this perpetual thing. My plan is to use the MH for plants that are in the 1-2 month window. For the clone - 1 month plants I used 2x 105w CFL lights and some old roofing for a reflector.

I'll also build another trolley stand like the one i have.

GROW ROOM UPGRADE
I made another trolley table. This side will have the 1-2 month old girls. I'll use 220w CFL on the clone-1 month old on the left and the 250w MH on the right for the 1-2 month old girls

I love this $1 reflector

DAY 19
Wonder Woman:
Really stressed out by her. She has one dying leaf and is kinda pale. These photo's don't do it justice. The weird thing is all of them get the same water from the same container, same light same everything. No pest. Please help!!

Aurora Indica:
She's doing fine. Growing strong and fast. Saw roots peeking out the bottom and transplanted her. Roots white and healthy

Hope all is well in your world.

Is this grow still alive?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

Hey guys

So sorry for being absent for so long. Things still going strong. I had so much work and didn't have any time to build my flower room so my girls were kept under veg until I could get the flower side up and running

Some good news for us South Africans. A solution that is currently on the table is for the government to make the possession and consumption of cannabis legal and then implement laissez faire and let cannabis circulate in the same way it has been, but now without the threat of prosecution.:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:
