Police caught me harvesting at 3:30am! 2 helicopters called out!

Ok, so early this morning I decided to harvest several of my autoflowers as they were pretty much done. I went to one of my plots, chopped about 5 ounces worth and was done and heading back by 03:30am. I had to go early in the morning when no one is about as the plants are in a field surrounded by woodland that is frequented by dog walkers and the spot is also overlooked by 5-6 large multimillion pound (£) apartments which are only about 250 yards away in the distance. All their balconies and windows are situated where they can look out directly into the overgrown field where my plants are located. They would never be able to spot a weed plant from that distance but they could certainly spot me moving around in broad daylight from back there which is why I went at night. Plus I had to walk alongside a main road to get back to my street so I would rather have gone at a time when the road would have no traffic on. Basically I didn't want to bump into anyone or get stopped by anyone, especially a cop when I had a rucksack full of weed!

Anyhow I had finished cropping, left the field and followed the trail some 250 yards out to the road near to where the apartments were. Like any typical British autumn/fall morning, there was a heavy widespread fog everywhere. I was about halfway up the road when I noticed beams from a car light coming through the fog towards me so I quickly darted into the woods opposite but noticed the car light fade and nothing came past. I waited another couple of minutes just to be sure before continuing on the road. I had walked for maybe 50 yards when, thanks to the fog, I suddenly found myself face to face with a patrol car that was parked up on the side of the road. I froze solid for a moment unsure whether they had seen me or not and unsure whether to sprint into the woods. But before I could do anything the headlights flicked on, full beam, blinding me, and the sheriff car accelerated and drove straight at me. I sprinted into the woods and the car followed to the point that it's bumper must have been touching the tree-line. I heard his car door burst open and the cop jump out right behind me as he attempted to give chase and he was shouting 'STOP' several times. At first he was only about 10 feet behind me when he first got out of car but without looking back I could hear his shouts and footsteps getting fainter fairly quickly as I was clearly outrunning him. I could see the torch beams shining past me as I ran but it didn't stop me whacking my knees and head into branches and tree trunks every couple of seconds. Eventually I stopped & ducked down once I had got about 100m into the woods as my legs were all cut up from brambles and stingers which is probably why he stopped giving chase. Either that or it was because he was the regular donut eating, coffee slurping, 350lb, 6'4 overweight cop that patrols my neighbourhood. I definitely recognised that putrid husky voice of his, it was deputy Samuel Jackson for sure, or the 'refrigerator with legs' as us stoners call him round here. And yes I have had run-ins with him before and yes it was for weed related reasons so he knows me.

I'm not sure how long had passed, maybe about 5-10 minutes while I was crouched down in the woods hiding but I couldn't hear anything around me. It was actually totally silent and I was getting creeped out by the dark of the woods. I was reluctant to get my phone out tho in case the light attracted any attention or gave away my position so I just waited there patiently. Next thing I know tho I start to hear the sound of a helicopter getting closer and closer until it is eventually almost above me. I got up and started running through the woods again, this time with my iPhone torch out since it wouldn't have made a difference since the police would obviously be following my movement with heat sensing infrared. I was still carrying my rucksack full of weed and I was about 200-300 yards into the woods and going deeper when the helicopters loud speaker came on & started telling me to 'freeze' and to 'lie on the ground' otherwise they would 'put me down with force'. I didn't have a clue what to do but I knew for an absolute fact that the police wouldn't be able to get to me or do shit this far in the woods unless they abseiled down out of the helicopter. Even directing ground units in from above would be pointless since I was constantly on the move so no ground unit would be able to reach me, at least not while it was dark still. Basically I was just waiting for the chopper to head back to base to refuel then I would sprint as far away as I possibly could or toss the rucksack somewhere to come back for. The helicopter continued to follow me and by now I assume I was about half a mile into the woods when it suddenly dropped off and started flying back in the direction it arrived from, presumably heading back to base. I thought 'yesssss, I can do this, I can get away' in my head. But no sooner had it turned back that another helicopter suddenly arrived taking its place. Before it got close to me tho I quickly stashed my rucksack behind a log next to a path in the woods, hoping I could come back and find it later. I then thought about walking straight back in the direction of the road and just accepting the inevitable, an eluding/fleeing police or resisting charge which was surely unavoidable now. Instead I decided to sit in the woods, almost in protest and out of defiance. I wasn't going to make it easy for them and in my head I was hoping the helicopter would fuck off and I would get away. Well half an hour later the helicopter did start heading back. I was sat there waiting for the other helicopter to return in it's place but much to my surprise it didn't. I straight away got up, grabbed my rucksack again that was still nearby and using my iPhone torch & compass I started running southwest. Literally 15 minutes later I was at the edge of the woods near the village and I could see a police van parked at the end of the road where I was initially spotted. Using the woods as cover I ran up towards the park and then hopped several neighbours fences to get back to my house while avoiding all of the streets in case of the cops spotting me. I got in through my back door just as the sun was coming up at 6:40am. My parents were still in bed and thankfully I still had my weed!!! It actually turned out there was a carjacking & shooting just south of London at 6am this morning which would explain why the choppers disappeared and didn't come back. They had to go one county over to assist in the chase...

Before anyone says I should have just acted cool and not panicked when I saw the cop car, well I was dressed like a burglar in all black at 3:30am, with a rucksack full of weed, 5+ ounces. Do the math...
Anyway, I know I should seriously lay low for a while now, or move away altogether even. The problem I have is that I have another 2 Autos as well 5 Photoperiods in the same grow spot which would involve me accessing the same road in order to reach them and I would have to come back with them along the same road, or at least some of the road. I can use the woods again but to get to the trail that leads to the field I have to travel up at least 150 yards of that road I was spotted on. The problem is all my plants are nearly done, like they will literally be ready next week. Is it worth it? Should I risk it and go back and crop them or should I just forget about it? I'm even thinking of sneaking out of town for a few weeks if I can 2bh.

I wouldn't stress it man. Doesn't sound like they knew what you were up to, just a suspicious person stalking around at night. I would maybe bring a change of clothes though, some running attire. Lots of runners (military) around here run with their rucksacks. Or keep it stealth and stay off the streets. I don't think it's a big deal in general though. Great story.

Hello G Dr!

If the 'refrigerator on legs' recognised you I would lay doggo for a while for your and your parents sake as you say you already had weed related run ins with him.

Was it a coincidence that he was waiting exactly at that spot at 3.30 am in the morning, or has your grow been compromised and the sad fatty was hoping for an easy done and dusted arrest?

Now officially putting on my 'mummy' hat, my advice is stay well away from your grow, unless your answer to both questions above are the correct ones. Not many people get a good warning when there is danger, you got a really loud one complete with bells and whistles.

Good luck and stay free.....

Hey it was a gamble to start with, go get them. If the cops knew it was there they would just pull the plants not place a full undercover sting for weeks on end for under 10 plants. That would be my guess at least.
I have done some stupid stuff myself but it just empowers me more, strange what a little excitement does to a ego.
It just kills me to leave the goods but I have done it a few times just because.
The ones I walked away from still haunt me but excellent learning experiences.

Oh to be young and full of piss and vinegar again! 40 years ago, you would have been a buddy of mine! I know better than to think any advise here is going to influence your decision to abandon it or go get it. If I were still young and vibrant (and less experienced), I would be hawking the goods still in the woods.

BUT I will try to give a bit of old guy advice anyway ... let them go back to dust Guerilla Dr! The buzz of running and hiding from the "law" can be very addicting, but the heavy downer side of getting a rap sheet for Intent To Distribute just ain't worth it man. Live to fight another day without that Felony on your back forever and let those remaining plants belong to the forest. You do want to grow again right? :thumb: Let it go ... let it go.

OK, now that you have laughed and are still trying to evaluate and figuring out how to get the remaining goods, remember that Cops love making busts. It's what they get paid to do, it's what they want to do, they feel job satisfaction when they do it, and it raises their social standing among their peers. Just know if you continue sticking your neck way out, eventually it will get caught in the snare.

Great story though, it made me reminisce about my own days of youth!
Take care man and think things through before taking action.

Best of Luck

man i would say risk it but this time u should go all "commando reefer" get your self some camouflage and start crawling to your plants when u get off that road or at least just be very cautious hiding every few steps seeing that the people in the apartments are most likely saw you and ratted you out and if ur thinking about doing it again maybe try and pick a more hidden area in maybe in the woods. you got a 50/50 chance of getting away and getting caught so man if u want it bad enough u will get it good luck man :) great story

There's absolutely no chance that anyone has ratted me out. I have been super secretive about this and the position of my plants is in such a place that I can confidently say that the site is still secure. Unless the people living in the apartments have access to infrared binocular vision to spy out of their windows at 3am into a random field some 250 yards away. Otherwise I don't think my plot has been rumbled. I think it was just by freak chance that I saw the cop because he was by himself, parked up in the car. I genuinely reckon he was stopped and parked up while he was on playing around on his phone or something waiting for a call which is why he was down a side country lane. Obviously a cop wouldn't be able to park up in the middle of town and just sit in his car on Facebook all night…people would complain which is why he was where he was. Plus he was on his own and if it was a stake out from a tip off there would be full on narcotics squad & K9 unit or drug sniffing dogs. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the fat fucker was sat in the car with some donuts and a porn mag 2bh. Like I'm not even joking.

I'm afraid it's also no longer optional, I HAVE to get to my plants. Not just to get the bud, but I also have seeds from a side project that I need to collect after crossing a West Coast OG Autoflower with a Blueberry Widow male. The result will be a 'semi' autoflowering strain with a THC % upwards of 20% & a 110 day lifespan. There is no way I am forgetting about those seeds & letting the plant rot where it stands!

I actually haven't been out of the house since the incident and I have thrown away my hooded top and sweatpants that I wore the night I was spotted. I'm going to give it another week at least to let the heat die down then I will go and get my plants. I just can't afford to bump into that cop because I am 99% sure he will recognise me and stop me if not arrest me on the spot. If we do spot each other again, I will 'leg it' as we say in England, to get away, because if they take me in and process me they will then find out my address and search my house, which means I am fucked!

Ha ha. Awesome story. It suddenly makes me realize that I must be getting older, because I have much less of that style of craziness in my life now, and actively avoid it. I've gotten away with so much for so long and lived a charmed life. Never got caught and I should be dead 100 times over. But the more you get away with it the more you realize looking back how much of it was just bullshit luck. At my age- I would say-walk away -because herb can be replaced but chunks of your life and sanity taken away by the cops cannot be.
Twenty years ago I would have meticulously scoped out the situation, planned everything, and gone for it.

Good job man! That's close call for sure.

Scope it out and make a trial run or 2 and stash a set of ''normal'' clothes somewhere so you won't look like a burglar when walking the streets at night, or stash the weed somewhere and come back for it in daylight and try to do it undercover style rather than commando style.

Good luck - I hope you don't need any next time

Right there is your own logical reason to let it go. I know logic doesn't always dictate actions and I am far from immune to less than awesome decisions, but read your last sentence a few dozen times before you venture out to the field again. I know that sounds wussie and parental, but you seem to not be heeding the warnings you were fortunate enough to receive. Again, I am far from perfect and have made many bonehead choices in my life. BUT, for your own sake, do try and think this one through ... you might get away with it, but you might also get tagged for life. I'm jumping off my fatherly Soapbox now!

Best of Luck

I'm so glad it's legal here. As an ex-asshole I have to beseech you to think about your parents. Taking risks with your own life is one thing, but if you have a grow at your parents house..........................

You and all of you would not be even on this site if you were not a risk taker and/or paranoid. I like to be safe but what the heck.

My last words......

Risk taking = the practice of taking action which MIGHT have undesirable consequences.

Recklessness = heedless of danger or the consequences of ones actions. Given to or marked by unthinking boldness

+Nwpassage, I don't have a grow-op going on at my house, although I do have equipment there. I started my outdoor plants inside at the end of March before planting out in May so I have the equipment in a closet, which is the same closet I grew in. And I managed to keep the whole thing secret from my family, which wasn't really an optional thing since they are church going Christians lol. But the grow equipment isn't the reason that I can't afford to have the piggies smash my door down, it's actually because I have about 12 ounces of dank in jars in my bedroom from an earlier harvest this year and I also have another 5-6 ounces I recently harvested drying out back in a makeshift airing device that I have strung up in a tree behind my back yard. That's partly due to the smell but it is also in case I do get raided as I don't want them taking all my buds that I have worked so hard for. Even if I was busted with all that shit, at the very, very worst, they would probably confiscate it, arrest me, put me in front of a judge and I would get a £200-600 fine. In the UK I have heard of people being busted with 20-30 plant op's and dodging jail with a suspended sentence which means as long as they don't reoffend in the next 2-3 years for example, they stay out of prison. That alone would make me take my chances.

That isn't the end of it though. I do have another BIG problem. Trust me when I say that I am a peaceful grower who just wants to grow a perfectly harmless plant and enjoy the fruits of my labour without any trouble. Obviously it isn't that simple as that however. Not just because of the cops, but also because of certain individuals or gangs shall we say that are operating in my area. Let's just say that under my bed I have a loaded........l. But I reckon they would take the message and move on to some other poor sucker. But that's why I'm packing heat under my bed which is the real reason why I can't get raided by the cops!

And before anyone says 'don't post that shit on this forum for cops to see', well there are several high profile UK weed growing forum sites and I purposely avoid them because if the UK cops will look anywhere to catch someone, it will be there. I know they won't be searching the forums on this site.
