EL MONTE - After getting calls from neighbors about a suspicious home in the neighborhood, police have discovered a marijuana grow house and arrested one man on drug charges.

Alexander Moy, 34, of San Marino, was arrested by the police after they observed him leaving the house, which is at (address removed), near the El Monte Airport.

Police found more than 700 marijuana plants at the home on Monday afternoon, according to Detective Ralph Batres of the El Monte Police Department.

"It looks like a professional job," Batres said. The pot's street value is likely worth several million dollars, he added.

Police had received tips from neighbors that people were coming and going at strange hours of the night, and that the windows were blacked out, he said.

Police conducted surveillance on the home, and pulled over Moy after they saw him leaving, Batres added.

After speaking with him, they got a search warrant for the home and found the plants.

Moy was renting the home, he said. The home owner has been informed of the situation, but did not appear to know how the home was being used, Batres added.

He added that the pot plants were in various stages of growth, and that like in most grow houses, the home had been to get electricity without paying for it.

Police do not yet know if Moy has any previous record or if there are any other people involved in the grow house operation, Batres said.

Funny how they always inflate the street value. 700 plants with an estimated street value of "several million dollars". Now that's funny!
