Two brothers were arrested in Franklin on Thursday after police seized a total of 724 pounds of marijuana.

Officers on surveillance with the Nashville police gang unit said they watched two men load several trash bags from a motel room into a Mercury Sable in the parking lot.

Jonathan Smotherman, 21, was charged with possession of marijuana for resale after he was pulled over in the car holding more than one thousand bricks of marijuana.

His 29-year-old brother William Arthur Smotherman was following in a separate vehicle and was charged with engaging in a marijuana conspiracy.

A passenger in the second vehicle, 27-year-old Allison Luffman, was also charged with conspiracy.

Luffman and William Smotherman are currently on federal probation for narcotic offenses. All three are being held without bond in the Williamson County Jail.
