Hi All, here is my weekly update. First of all - lots of stretch! I mentioned in a previous post that this is my first grow without any training methods used. Just let ‘em grow and see what happens! The flowers seem to be developing ok and they were given a slight trim to help the light penetrate. Day 22 flower.

Hey All, my earlier post this week discussed the females (which by the way, I just noticed have the trics starting see photo). Also, I made the decision to do some very light LST on the rangy females. Here’s the latest on the male. This past Monday, we took down the male and we stripped all the pods and some of the leaf material and put into the trim bin. I left the trim bin in the dark until today. I first used a wood paint stick as my implement of choice to press the pollen through the screen. I didn’t feel as this was very efficient, so I switched to a short length of 2” x 2”, which sped the job up. Got as much as I could and used my trim bin brush to collect the pollen on a piece of paper and then into the container with some rice. I put the container in a baggie and then nto the fridge. One thing that would have made this job more efficient would have been to line the trim bin with a piece of parchment paper.
I put the trim bin back on the dark and will give it a few more days to see if there is any pollen left to capture.
We are thinking of pollinating next week (Monday will be day 28 of flower). Too soon? Your thoughts?

I believe youre going to need about 6 weeks for seed to ripen. Now is a good time.
I still like 6 and 5. And whoever said 3 was onto something.

Thanks BB - Took your advice about doing it now. Done! Each branch marked with orange pipe cleaners has had the male pollen painted on. Am leaving the fans off for a couple of days. Red arrows point to areas that were pollinated. Thank you for that!

Look for the pistils to shrivel and withdraw. Then they will turn red, the calyx will swell and youll see seeds in a few days.
Then she will cover them with new bud swell as she matures.

The pollen should take just fine at day 28.

If there are white pistils it "takes". Thats really never an issue. You need to make sure you do it soon enough that she can finish the seed[6weeks i think] and still finish the bud, which youll still want to use.

It’s been about 20 hours since we painted the pollen on to the selected branches. When I checked the pollinated pistils this morning with a loupe you can see the pollen. Unfortunately not as much visibility with the iphone and a cheap macro lens. However you can see the difference between an unpollinated flower and a pollinated one with the photos. Top photo - no pollination, bottom photo - pollinated.

I just dropped couple dozen 24k gold X Chernobyl seeds in a shot glass. Soon I'll be on a pheno hunt of my first breeding project

If you can harvest pollen now you can freeze it until you need it
Looking forward to see you up and growing again... Probably was a wise idea to shit can the last grow... It is easier to start afresh than battle them son of a bitchs.......

Is a ziploc bag with rice in the freezer OK for short term (months) pollen storage?
