A Fletcher man arrested in a drug raid claims he has the paperwork to prove he's legit.

Todd Stimson's charges include manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to sell and maintaining a dwelling with intent to keep controlled substances. During a drug raid last Thursday, cops seized about 75 plants worth $180,000.

Stimson says he spent thousands of dollars on North Carolina tax stamps for each of those plants. Stimson claims what he's doing has been in public view for years. Online, he runs his Blue Ridge Medical Cannabis Research Corporation website.

The Department of Revenue says buying tax stamps only fullfills tax obligations. Those who have the stamps are still in violation of North Carolina criminal statutes for possessing the drugs.
