Growing Pueblo's Future, a group fighting a possible dismantling of the recreation cannabis industry in Pueblo County, has raised $95,452 for the effort, according to the Colorado Secretary of State's campaign finance site.

The group has spent $24,423 through the June 7 filing date, and had $71,028 cash on hand.

The contributors to the effort are made up of marijuana dispensary and cultivation owners. They have banded in the wake of a ballot initiative that would scuttle the county's cannabis industry if it passes in November.

But first, the initiative must pass muster with enough signatures to get on the ballot. The anti-marijuana group, Citizens for a Healthy Pueblo, needs 5,500 valid voter signatures to get on the ballot. If the backers of the petitions, which were turned in Thursday, are successful in November, all recreational marijuana businesses would have to close by a year after the election.
