Good evening all!

Well here we go again...

I won't go into too much detail as I made an introductory post (Purples intro) with more detail but I've decided to start growing again and this is my new adventure.

First things first. The setup. The ting goes:

DS120 Secret Jardin Tent (1.2m x 1.2m x 1.85m)

3 x 5 inch fans for intake and exhaust

1 x 5 inch custom made carbon filter (still being made)

I'll be using Coco Professional plus as my growing medium and I will be using Old Timers Plant Magic Bloom nutes for the flowering period.

And lastly the final pots will be 12L pot hoggers

Now the fun part! The babies...

So I currently have 3 auto flowers in the tent in veg at 18-6 for about 2 weeks now:

Pineapple Express Auto from Fast Buds

And finally Blue Mammoth from Barney's Farm

As you can see the Blue Mammoth looks a bit warped. She had some trouble splitting from the seed shell and has caused her some leaf problems. The newer growth is a bit wonky still so I will see how it goes with her.

Anyway I am actually more excited about the seeds that came this week which I will be germinating this weekend. For the purpose of this journal I will be concerntrating mostly on the feminised seeds as opposed to the autos but they will be included.

I wonder how many of you will get a chuckle from this but I will be growing:

1 x Kings Kush from Greenhouse seeds (My brothers choice but I love the look of the genetics and the dark amber colours)

0ed84b0941553b2514badc01fc4b41d6.jpg

1 x Sour Diesel from Reserva Privada (I have grown this strain before and absolutely loved it. My mouth still salivate at the thought of smoking this strain again!)

Anyone that has grown these strains will know they are polar opposites in grow height. Needless to say there will be plenty of topping, LST, supercropping and general training to manage this grow... I love a challenge ..

Well I guess thats it for now...

More to come!

Much Love, Purkle

Subbing for the ride. I have been growing in soil the past two grows but I just started with coco. So far I'm really liking it. I'm thinking of getting a dwc setup in the near future...️
Hey East Coast Ghost!

Thanks for subbing and welcome!

I've just had a look through your last journal and loving your set up and grows.

How different to soil are you finding it? Would you say it's just better for air flow and drainage?

What is DWC set up?

Interesting genetics. Won't that be a lot of plants for that square footage? I guess we will see.
I won't lie it is a concern of mine. Mostly because the sour diesel is a stretchy girl but previous experience has taught me that they respond well to training. I did forget to mention I will be scrogging so hopefully that will help with control.

Thanks Purkle, it's really not alot of difference than the soil. The main difference is you have to feed everyday at least once in coco and soil I was feeding every 4-5 days. There's alot more work with coco but the rewards can be alot more also. DWC is called Deep Water Culture, it's a form of hydroponic growing. You use air stones to aerate the nute solution and supply roots with oxygen. Your roots grow down in the nute solution and get massive. You can Google DWC setups and you can see what I'm talking about. ..️

That sounds pretty badass.

I've never gone down the hydro route purely due to cost and it looks like more work but I love learning about it :)

I'm growing in CoCo now and it's a form of hydroponic growing. It takes more work if you hand water like I do cause you have to feed everyday and once roots get established multiple times daily but if you hook them up on a drip system and timer it's alot easier, all you have to do it keep your res full and set timer to feed when you want. ..️

You've given me something to think about. How much space does the set up for a drip system typically take up would you say for 4 x 12L containers like my pot hoggers?

I would say a 4×4 area would be perfect for 4 plants and a reservoir...️

Awesome so my tent is the perfect size for it.

I'll do some research and see what I can find out :)

Thanks!

Quick update:

I know it's only been a couple days but I thought I would give a quick update on where the grow is at.

I finally put two each of the Sour diesel and Kings Kush into germination using the paper towel method.

Today is day 2 but they haven't popped yet.

A little update on the autos:

All seems to be plodding on well with all 3 babies showing new and healthy growth.

The Blue mammoth auto looks to have topped itself from its struggle with the stuck seed pod which I removed as soon as it showed its face above soil but hey ho I guess that's less work for me as I was planning on topping all 3 plants one time.

Pictures!

Afternoon all .,

It's been a complicated week!

So just to fill you all in on what's happened to date. I had a landlord visit so the auto babies had to hide! And hidden they were but this meant they were in darkness for 12 hours ..

It's all good though as they don't look to have been affected.

All 4 seeds popped and grew strong roots within a couple of days. The Kings Kush looks like it's got some strong genes, being the first two to pop and breach the surface of the soil but the SD's aren't far behind!

Today's entry however is just about my repotting process. I don't do anything special with seeds besides letting them soak in paper towel and then popping them thumb knuckle deep into the Co Co, adding a small layer of extra Co Co and just letting nature take its course. I've never had any problems doing it this way and have stuck to it ever since. Ill probably be shot for saying this but I've never needed to prepare my soil or let the seeds drop in water and I've always had 100% success.

Anyway... On with the repotting!

The autos are ready for their forever pots so I start by filling the pot with about 3 inches of Co Co and then add a thin layer of a mix of organic nutrients such as bone meal, blood and fish guts and a couple other bits. I repeat the process to end up with two layers of Co Co and two thin layers of my mix:

fa3a783e3bf9a42880fae0520169fad2.jpg

d98524fe754a897467dcd5bdc1561a64.jpg

I then add a thinner layer of Co Co about an inch and a half and add a thinner layer of my mix so the babies aren't overwhelmed.

Next I put the previous small pot containing the baby into the new pot as below:

3dfc06f33c7eae40fc0ec047d45e9f77.jpg

I then proceed to fill the rest of the pot with Co Co and wiggle the small pot out so it will fit perfectly when transplanting:

eadd42fcf45949ad3d471dc7c5d401aa.jpg

Almost there now!

Now it's just a question of getting the baby out her pot and into the new soil and finally adding more Co Co to fill up the pot.

I tend to wait until the soil is dryer but I've noticed Co Co is so porous that it better to wait until there is some slight moisture then push the corners of the pot to loosen it all.

I then put my hand over the pot and the baby between two fingers as shown here:

017816bb6559a6685809eba69a8d5254.jpg

Then its just turning it upside down, tapping the bottom a tad and she should pop right out. She then goes into the new pot and gets that extra layer to ensure she's all tucked into her forever pot ..

Then lastly they go back in the tent and get a water only feed :).

All 3 girls are now repotted and under the lights again.

I will make another update tomorrow to show you all the photo babies and the repotted autos in the tent.

Happy toking and growing all!

Coco sure does look nicer to use than the rocks I have.
Unfortunately continuous drip hydroponics and coco probably wouldn't work well together for me.
Are all of your stems a deep red colour or is that a reflection off the red coco?

So far it hasn't been any different to my soil grows but I've been told to look into a couple things for a drip system of sort so I'll let you know what I find out if it's useful to you :).

The stems are purple but it does look red in the pics probably as you said is due to the red of the Co Co. I live in a cold part of the world so I've always assumed the purple was from the temperature but all the strains I've grown have been the same that way

OK so it's been longer than I said but here's the update!

I will start with the autos...

It does look like their time in darkness has set the growth back a tad but I have since turned the lights to full spectrum instead of just the blue and they have responded well with new growth in the last couple of days alone.

The Blue mammoth auto looks to have righted itself and didn't top itself after all! Sure that means the plant probably isn't as stressed as I first though but it does mean I will need to top it myself when they've vegged out some more.

Now the photos!

What can I say other than it appears each pheno is different!

The Kings Kush look to be stretchy ladies in the early stages which I don't mind as I wanted them to stretch out as much as possible before the flower time comes as they don't stretch much in flower going by Greenhouse seeds review and their YouTube video on the girl.

338cbfd23e56d3a3e2e37e8427ba258d.jpg

The Sour Diesels have peaked my interest just because one is extra stretchy and the other is tiny. They both poked their heads out of the soil the same day but I think it may be due to one of the seeds taking an extra day to germinate.

The leaves also look a little different on the smaller one but I am more than happy with all the little ladies who look to be loving the full spectrum of lights and the soil!

512c5c58b603e75807bd2028feec3d58.jpg

I am sticking to my original plan and just giving them all water feeds until its time for flower and obviously testing PH to keep it around the 6 mark.

Humidity is stable between 40 and 45 which I don't want any higher or lower due to this countries climate, it can get cold so I would rather avoid any fungal or mold issues. I've also always found it to be a good stable humidity since most plants prefer the 40's in flower and dropping it down towards harvest.

Temps are sitting around 18 at lights off and around 24 at lights on. (That's around 64 F at lights off and 75 F lights on for my Yank friends :)).

Lights are still on a 18/6 cycle and will stay that way until flower.

Well that's all for tonight folks!

Much Love,

Purkle . .
