read this definitive method on watering. explains the wet dry cycle.
you should not be in soil if you don't grasp this.

don't forget to thank @Emilya

for the record i hate nuted or semi-nuted soils. can be hard on seedlings and difficult to learn when to hand off to the nutes.

They are in ff ocean. My local hydro store shout out to green thumb, he said wait til 14 days to nute at all with ff soil because it's so nutrient heavy. Water 2 to 3 days with 6.1 ph distilled water from walgreens. Not sure what wet/dry cycle means. I will now thank you. What is it?

Your hydro guy is right that your plants should not need any nutrients for a few weeks. As well as Emilya's paper 'The Proper Way to Water a Potted Plant,' you'll find lots of good information for soil growing in Emilya's current journal. She may be growing in LOS. or living organic soil, but the techniques she uses are relevant to most grows.

So your thoughts on spots? My watering is poor? Thank you all very much

All of my girls shakin in the wind. The 3 that were still in small 1 gallons got up potted into 7 gallon homes after topping. They look good and feel good today!

So your thoughts on spots? My watering is poor? Thank you all very much

Your soil looks wet. The seedling is in Fox Farm's Ocean Forest soil. One of these is probably the problem. Trying to move the seedling to a soil with lighter nutrients will very likely kill it. If the soil is wet, the best I can recommend is letting the soil dry out, then establishing the wet/dry cycle.

I've been growing for just over three years. Every plant was started from seed. I lost over 40% of my seedlings. I've been growing in coco/perlite since I started. Conventional wisdom is that you can't over water in coco. This grow I decided to follow Emilya's recommendations for watering in soil with my seedlings. I didn't lose even one! This is my seventh grow, and the only one in which I did not lose a single seedling. I attribute this success to Emilya's teachings.

Let your pot dry out. It may take a week or more. Hopefully your seedling will survive. If it does, start teasing out the roots, and establish that wet/dry cycle. Post a picture here every day or two. Everyone that has replied to this thread will be notified when you do, and will follow along. If there's anything we see that can help, we'll let you know.

pls answer below. til then just a guess
seedlings are touchy as well. they grow through all kinds of stuff.

Are you feeding them? If so, what are you feeding them?
What's the pH of your water / nutrient solutions?

haha old salt got it

So last week i topped all 5 of my plants in veg. New stuff is happening. Are these looks like 4 new branches all from topping?

The growing tip is the apical dominate part of the plant. If it is cut off the dominance moves to the next tip down and that becomes dominant. Here are a couple of quotes from a web search on Apical Dominance.

In botany, apical dominance is the phenomenon whereby the main, central stem of the plant is dominant over (i.e., grows more strongly than) other side stems; on a branch the main stem of the branch is further dominant over its own side branchlets.

The apical bud produces the hormone, Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) which is also known as auxin. ... When we prune a plant, removing the apical bud, the lateral buds in the axils of the leaves below the cut stump "awaken" and begin to actively grow.

I find it interesting how it works and use it out in the flower gardens to increase the color show.

Wow that is super interesting. I absolutely understand what all the fuss is about with topping. Thank you for sharing! I love this place

It just occurred to me that at this time of year we see examples of the use of Apical Dominance when we look at natural Christmas trees. The growers spend summer after summer trimming the growing tips so that the tree can be shaped. The new dominant tips would be trimmed back in the following year or two to bring the shape closer to what the grower wants for the market.

So i woke up again today to more explosive growth. These top fan leave's are really getting large. Would it be a good idea to remove some of them to allow more light through to lower branches? Also im not sure if these threads are actually going to my journal or not. Are they Just random threads or are they going into my journal? It doesn't appear that they are. Many thanks!

I love waking up to my plants reaching for the light. Kyle Kushman said that was a sign of supreme health.

So i haven't really mentioned the other tent in here much. I officially put 11 plants into veg in my other 4 ×4 ×7 tent 4 days ago. There are 2 white widow, 3 girl scout crack, 2 strawberry gum, 3 alaskan purple and 1 double glock. I did a bit of experimenting with the pots. I put 8 of them into air pots and i put 3 into 1 gallon smart pots. Just curious which one would work better. So far the ones in the 1.7 liter air pots seem to really have an advantage. They were all germinated 11/20 so i went ahead and started them on ff nutrients half strength on Thursday. They seem to be responding really well.
