Questions on trimming and fertilizer

Hi:

I have some tall sativas that are just starting to bud. I want to trim unneeded leaves but I am not sure how far to go in the trimming.

Also, I have some Foxfarm Big Bloom and also some Neptune Harvest Fish and Seaweed Fertilizer. Which is best? Both are a year old, can I still use them?

If you're getting good light penetration on the plant I wouldn't take any of the leaves from a sativa. To the plant, there are no unneeded leaves.

I haven't used the Neptune but I used to use the FF Big Bloom from mid-veg through harvest. If there's no expiration date on the bottle and they were stored in a cool place I guess they'd be okay.
