If you want my honest opinion, it seems to me that the growers that will measure pH are the ones that will properly nutriate the plants and pay attention to more important issues. Dont get me wrong, with certain additives, its essential to pH using a meter. I bought one for $20 off eBay years ago and its still going strong. It has an adjustment screw (important) so you can adjust it with buffer solutions. You will most likely find that a pH meter isnt as important as you think...pH paper can do just fine.

Dont forget, theres the pH of your water (added), the pH of the soil itself, and the pH of the runoff water...
