Replace a 5W with a 3W LED

Title says it - I made a dumb light purchase and want to try swapping out some white LEDs to Reds. Rather not wait a long time for shipping or spend more money on these and I already have a bunch of extra 3w 660nm's on hand ..... will they not work or just burn out fast on a 5w panel?
