A major change in the Iowa Legislature could make medical marijuana legal in Iowa.

A new bill set to be unveiled Tuesday would make it legal to grow medical marijuana, make cannabis oil and setup dispensaries in Iowa. It would also make it legal to carry marijuana across state lines.

Republican legislators killed similar legislation last year. Now State Representative Peter Cownie (R) is sponsoring the new bill.

The bill has already received support from West Des Moines Mayor Steve Gaer, whose daughter uses hemp oil to help with seizures.

Medical marijuana supporters and lawmakers will hold a news conference Tuesday to unveil details of the new legislation. The conference will be held at the state house at 1:15 p.m.
