Gov. Gina Raimondo is drawing fire over a proposal to require Rhode Island growers to buy tags from the state for plants they cultivate and to reduce the number they may own by half.

The Providence Journal reports patients who use medical marijuana or grow it legally are lashing out at the governor over the plan.

The tags would cost $150 for patients who grow their own and $350 for caregivers who are permitted to provide marijuana for up to five patients. Patients are limited to having six plants and caregivers are limited to 24.

Patients say they can't afford the prices. But state officials say the program ensures better regulation and more oversight.
