Hey everyone! So stoked to join this page. I’m venturing into my first grow and just wanted to post a pic of my seedlings and see if you think they have light stress. Of note, this is my first grow of any plant ever. So I’ve had a lot to read and learn.

Growing indoors in FFOF. 2/3 seeds germd in peat pellets. I saw a couple roots come through the mesh and I removed the bottom mesh and put into 5gal fabric pots after one week in jiffy pellets. I am at 11 days since germ. I have a 24”x48”x60” tent. Temp stays around 75F and RH around 55-60%. I’m doing 24/0, but did 18/6 for the first week. I have a small osc fan and exhaust fan/carbon filter and humidifier. Light is a MH TS 1000.

one of the two seedlings has slightly odd looking first set of leaves (not cotyledons), with some skinny leaves and yellow splotches, compared to the other. But that one has started growing much faster than the one that was looking perfect. And the one that was looking perfect now has the edges of the first two leaves curled up.

As far as the light, I had it turned down and about 24” from the seedlings. I moved it up to 36” today to see if it helps. Any info is much appreciated!! Thanks

I never use jiffy pots to start, the biodegradable ones take way to long to break down letting the roots spread. Definitely get that light up I run a 1000 HPS at 3 1/2 4 feet until they’re established, looks like some light stress and maybe hot soil in the mix, I don’t feed anything for the first 3 to 4 weeks and SLOWLY start mixing in light nutes watching how they react. Less I’d definitely more!!!!

Definitely too much light there ... those leaves will always be a bit wonkey after this... but other than that, your soil doesn't look like you are overwatering and the growth looks good for 11 days, already working on the 3 set of leaves. Keep doing what you are doing, but you might want to get a light meter so you can see what you are doing in regards to light placement.
:goodjob:

To give u an idea at around 3 to 4 weeks this size I did my first feeding at 1/8 the recommended mix and my plants developed some nute burn at the leafs tips about a day after this pic was taken.....

The best part of growing is when the frost fairy ‍♀️ shows up on random night and you wake up to this !!

Thank you guys so much for your input! Very great full!! Dan...those flowers look sooooo good...most excellent work. Emilya...I did download a lux meter on my phone and was using it to get around 5k lux for the seedlings, but then I read on a respected site that measuring lux with LED light isn’t accurate at all, compared HPS and other traditional light sources.

oh, and something I left out. I jumped the gun and didn’t have my pH meter when I popped my seeds. I put (what I thought was) a tiny splash of distilled white vinegar into a liter of water that I used to expand my peat pellets and also wick the pellets one more time. I checked the water I used, when the pH meter came in, and it was freaking 3.8! Crap! But they went right to their first set of leaves no problem. I guess the current problems could stem partially from that.

lol, yeah, that was a bit low. Cell phone apps are notoriously horrible at picking up LED light and giving it an accurate reading. I did some studying on this and found that if you get even a decent LUX meter (around $35 USD) it does a fair job recognizing full spectrum light. LED lights have a CRI rating, which rates the light as to how close to the sun's output it is, which of course is our standard. The closer to the CRI of 100 your light is, the more accurate your meter will be and you can use a formula to correct your LUX reading to PAR. I learned that my COB lights, running at a CRI of 90, had a conversion factor of 68, so I would take my LUX reading and divide it by 68 to get PAR. PAR can then be compared to any light. A targeted red or blue light can be very powerful, but only give a small reading on a LUX meter... but once you do the appropriate conversion to PAR, it can be seen just how powerful these lights can be.
