A state Senate panel will take up a bill Thursday to legalize medical marijuana. The legislation, which senators have been working on since last year, has gained some bipartisan support despite the vehement objections of law enforcement; SLED Chief Mark Keel said in September it was the most potentially damaging bill he'd seen in his 39 years in law enforcement. The bill would allow doctors to prescribe marijuana for certain illnesses including cancer, HIV and glaucoma, and would create a seed-to-sale electronic tracking system and require state licensing of growers, processors and dispensaries. It passed out of a subcommittee in September.
