s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013

sorry about your friend s1:(
how old are the little ones? moving to a new school can be pretty traumatic. but if they are just getting started maybe it won't be so bad for them.
good vibes to you and your family:circle-of-love:

i think the best hedge is to have unique and exclusive strains nobody else has, flavors, colors, smells and effects are what im working on, just imagine if you had the only red, cinnamon flavored strain that made like a viagra/valium effect , impossible? not for the cannabis plant with its crazy genetic potential and massive turpene system, what if you could get the "cinnaboner" plant to go from seed to 1/2 # harvest in 6 weeks, its all in the breeding and dna, thats where my $ is at

Haha...you made me laugh bid!

Thanks Fish, he was a good friend who fell off into the deep end of life via Meth:(
As for my Kiddos There still pretty young, two of them are still in elementary and one is in Jr. High. My three oldest children are already out of High School.
So after only getting two hours of sleep at the most I gave my oldest a ride to work at his new job which of course in giving him the best shift lol. 430 am stat time but the wife and I went and met the home seller at the title insurance office and once again we re homeowners! Now my only problem is getting up the money to make the next 180 monthly payments. I could've gotten in a little cheaper per month but for under 175 more a month it will be a 15 year instead of a 30. I plan on paying it off as fast as possible since there is no pre-payment penalty.
Sure wish it was possible to invite all of the 420mag.com members here to a big ass housewarming/420 party :):)
It's the tought that counts right lol??

Congrats on the house bro!

I took some pics this morning before I crashed out on the army cot. They are about nine days out from harvest. This time I am flushing the heck out of them (prob. too much) with water and Final Phase at 2 ml.'s per L so I've been using 30 ML.'s for every 4 gallons. The last two nights I have been there I gave them 2 buckets full or approx. 8 gallons. I do see a difference with the way the leaves look, there not looking as great as they did last time but I realize that's what it probably takes to get the nutrients out of the plant.
Anyways the odd ball pic is just to show the amount of negative pressure that the tent (room a) is producing, or at least thats what I think it is. Bassman calls it "Tent Suck" I think (sorry if it aint you bass) I am thinking of firing up the HydroGen soon if not this next reload maybe room b's in 6 weeks

I hope you all like the pics and thanks for following along. I will take a bunch of pics of the harvest and of the dry bugs, weights included this round. I will keep this journal going for approx. 8 more weeks or until I get a harvest of "Cookies" for those who have been patiently waiting. Hopefully my next journal will have a "How To" section about hooking up and maintaining a water cooled CO2 Generator

Hey sling, these pictures are FROSTY! This one should be an advertisement for a seed company:

DSCN01367.JPG

And I love the double header. A couple questions for you when you get time, and sorry if I missed them along the way somewhere in this thread.

1. What is your method for choosing WHEN is the right time to start flushing?

2. I know all your plants are from clone; did you grow up a few plants from seed, take clones from them, and then choose the BEST phenotype for a mother? Or are you not too picky about this?

3. A few of you were talking about profits, cutting corners, and I also saw you talking about how your budget is thin right now. What do you feel is your bottle neck? What I mean by this, is... picture your ideal situation where you are growing to your maximum potential. What would it take to get there? Are you limited by plant count? Are you limited by space? Or would more LIGHT allow you to produce more? Just curious.

I can't wait to see the pictures of the harvest. I'm so envious of your grow. The leaves look so healthy. +reps for you.

dsont know if this was for sl1ng or not but ill take a stab ; P

GREAT budd btw

1. flushing, ok this is somthing pll say is a myth, other sware by it, me, i like to flush 3 days before i harvest, then only give them 1-3 hrs of light for the next 3 days and during this time your plants should have dryed up the soil, if not, you can give couple more days, longer the better, some people i hear are leting there plant die/starve on the plant in a dark room and harvest there dry product of the plant for curing, that takes up space tho ; P

2. MOST growers will grow several strains and pic the one that either, yeilds the; most/fastest/dankest/bigest bud (depending on there preferences.) i picked my mother because of the phno being a 60/40 sativa and that is what my PATIENTS want. <-- (this ties into cutting corners and market)

3. main 3 factors of a grow being economically succesfull (not including skill) is Light/Size of space/ and nutes. That being said, you want to use all three to the best abbility and do it cheaper, question is how do i grow the same product but at less of a cost? There are many many methods to help you get more bang for you buck, some people will grow 1 plant under a 1000w and get a pound, or you can grow 4-5 under same light and get same yeild, the diffrence will be in bud size, dencity, and over all space taken up. The ideal situation is hard to pin point because as you see with plls threads, its hard to find 2 growers using the same setup, in the same size room, with the same strain and nute line up, thats a 1/1000 shot lol so its all about what YOU want out of your grow, if its for profit, personal use, or to help others that need medicine that cant afford the top shelf,

The thing we were KINDA complaining about is that when you spend 9-12 weeks on electicty, nutes, water wat not, and get dank bud, but your patients still want it for same price as the 8 week trree..... i hate choping my harvest before it is completely done, because i know how much better it will be BUT i cant make my money back that i could if i just chop and start over with next round xo

Hey JLT, thanks for the response, and good to hear your methods. I was really curious as to s1ing's take on this as well. I wasn't really looking for general information, but more as to how s1ing does it. I am interested in what criteria he uses to determine when it is time to start flushing, if he is selective with mothers, and where the budget struggle is coming from.

That is a good point about the 12 week strains, and general quality overall. It seems growers are more interested in quality, and patients are more interested in quantity / price.

Grower: "I've got this great new sativa strain, you're going to love it!"

Patient: "Yeah whatever, as long as it gets me high, I'm good."

Patient: "Yeah whatever, as long as it gets me high, I'm good."

lol that is what we don't like ; P some people arn't that interested in the quality or difference in the smoke, i am a connoisseur of sorts with my smoke lol

Yeah, they want it for nothing........I got some mids for em..........they could grow for themselves...take a coupla years to figure it out....or waste a bunch of money and fail completely.....I look at the patients differently lately........I give them more than they pay for in the way of the tinctures...............I'm getting sick of people who want something for nothing.....nothing is free.......it's like some of them want us to pick up their slack.........I have a bad attitude toward the chinciest market I've ever seen! I will just shut the crappy patienits out and keep the good ones. You know, when I was a growers patient, dude was learning, I got some less than top shelf meds, seeds, just not top shelf meds. This guy was always apologizing and I told him " don't trip, your gonna get it, and I'll keep payin, even if he sucked he still needed to pay the bills....I payed the bills, non growing leaches need to be scraped off on the pharmacies..........

The thing that is so amazing with marijuana on a medical base is that you can have two plants of the same strain, and if one isnt grown "well" the weed is mids quality. its almost like liquor, there is the Jim Bean for 5-10$ or you could get the bottle of patron for 50$ ... you pay more for the quality of the product because it took more resources to refine and manufacture ae: wax, hash

im glad i grow for me and my family we are all conniseurs and everybody loves hearing the buds back story ,when i started i feared there would quickly be no $ in the growing for $ , where i see the $ is in genetics everybody wants that hot new strain ,seems this year its gsc last was gdp ,slh before that, of course theres always demand for the top 20, but im working on breeding every other cycle i do for new crosses & seed, then a seedless for smoke gear soon im addind a 3rd cycle testing crosses & feminizing, next run will be the new c&f cycle, i may have to add a second flower space so i can run some seedless every cycle and keep r&d going all the time, but my goal is to create some new strains not just crosses that are stabilized and of course totaly amazing ,high hopes i know but why not:high-five:

but my goal is to create some new strains not just crosses that are stabilized and of course totaly amazing ,high hopes i know but why not:high-five:

that just reminded me of the idea i had of taking a female plant from one strain and grafting a male plant from another strain on to it, then putting them into a separate flower room so they can have dirty time with each other and bing bang boom we have cross bread seeds!

Less soil used, less nutes, less space used, more light on one plant... im talking growing it big as u can in a 5-10 and then get a crap ton of seeds from them lol let the balls fly!

Awesome bro! Grats! :thumb:

This is the second home you own now, right? Don't you own 'the ranch'? too? You're just moving from a rental to something you own as your primary residence was what I understood. So did you end up closer or further from the ranch?

lol that is what we don't like ; P some people arn't that interested in the quality or difference in the smoke, i am a connoisseur of sorts with my smoke lol

I think most growers are, or become, connoisseurs. :)

What if you just reduce your breeding space? ie don't make another flowering space for your 'production', keep the existing space, assuming you think it's already adequate, and just carve out a little breeding area. Have you read about the "Bonsai Sultan Method" of breeding? (sorry can't recall if that's here or another forum, but Google outta find it). I read that awhile back, and that's the route I plan to go. If I ever need to make a large batch of seeds, ie selling my new strain, I'll use a large flowering room, but for breeding and experimenting with crosses, you don't need 1000's of seeds. Wouldn't 100 be plenty? Or do you always want 1000's in case you get the killer cross? I always thought your F1's are not stable, so you have to back-cross them a few times anyway. I wouldn't need 1000's of seeds for each of these crosses would I?

Grats again on the new place Sl1ng! So when is the :420: ?

Congrats on the house bro!

Thanks for the compliments, makes my day. As for the flushing this time I waited for two things one was the flowers getting to "That" size and two I waited until I saw a difference in the white hairs. Instead of all white and new everyday I waited until the white hairs started dying or drying? Not sure how to word it. I was going to wait and do it by the calander but I thought it might be better to let the plant tell me when she was ready. Please remember I am still learning and experimenting. I just dont want to be responsible for someone messing up their garden by doing something I am trying lol. I had a complaint last harvest about popping and crackling when smoked and I a$$umed it was not flushed enough but I have sense realized that the speed at which the flowers dried was probably the culprit so this time I will dry much slower and in an air conditioned room. Between drying slower and by flushing it more hopefully no more road flare instead of a joint lol
The OG Kush clones were all from ONE single promo seed from TUDE, I would've preferred to pick and choose out of a group of plants and then see which one has the best final product, bag appeal, weight etc.. but I had no problem choosing the Mother plant as she was the only one LOL.
Not sure what the bottle neck is other than out of towers coming here and low balling the local growers and taking say 125 for a zip. I just can't compete with those prices cause with the distance I drive to my op is far and my overhead is so much more than an outdoor grower. I am trying to go thru my schedule and what not to see if theres improvements I can make to help lower that overhead but as for now if I can't get a 200 per zip "Donation" I am doing nothing but breaking even. Now at the 200 per I make an income but the area I live in is one of the poorest counties in the nation (due to how many people per sq. mile) and most just dont have any meds money. I really more time to answer that last question properly. I will try to get it answered another time. One thing I am planning to do soon that will help is firing up my CO2 Generator

I can totally relate to what you and others are talking about. If I could only get the smokers and medicaters around here to understand that as with most things in life "You get what you pay for" I'd have an easier time. Keep at it and I have faith you will get a set of patients that you can trust and rely on one day soon.

Grats again on the new place Sl1ng! So when is the :420: ?

This "New Home" for us is actually alot farther from my grow:( but for now (until I get a shop built) it's what I have to do to get my family in a better area that is safer and has more opportunities so as always I will do whatever it takes to provide the best possible. This will be our only home we own at the moment as right now we are renting but we do own the 40 acres outright.
Not sure if the breeding questions were for me or BID or?? Sorry if I missed any questions I am tired and have tons of trimming to do starting tomorrow. my Good Friend from CA is down to help and I will send him home with a jar of meds for his time and cause it's just the right thing to do and he doesn't grow so he has to go buy at a dispensary and can only afford to buy shake.

PLEASE "Kick Me" if I forgot to answer or if I did a poor job at answering them. I will be super busy but will set aside some time later this weekend when my bro leaves to catching up on all your journals and updating mine proper like, sorry all for the rush job getting back to all of you. I will do my best to do a better job next time.
I am having some great results with the "The Purps OG Kush" Hybrid I got unexpectedly, the bubba kush seedlings aren't doing as well but the Pre 98 Bubbas are looking real promising.
If I haven't said anything yet I am trying to get a better cut to work with. I think the OG I am working with could be better or maybe I am spoiled comparing it to the SFV OG I got last year from HarborSide in Oaktown. This cut I developed just doesn't have that lemon pine-sol taste I grew to love, it's Real Decent but just not there yet. Now the Purple OG might end up being something but wont have a clue for a good long while.
