Salt build up?

I've been trying out a hydro system for the first time as a side project and it looks like there is starting to get a white crusty build up on the base of the stem and on the rockwool cubes. I think it is salt building up but am not sure. Is this a common problem and if so how would you fix it? Thanks for the help

What about salt crust formation on the top of the block?

Answer:
This is a typical problem in Ebb/Flood systems. Top watering the blocks weekly by hand can minimize this problem.
