Salvaging Grow #2 Using LEDs For Flower & T5's For Veg

Hi all,
This was suppose to be a smooth switch from 1st grow to 2nd grow, but things in life do not always go as planned. 2nd Week of 12/12 completed and I started the salvage operation yesterday. Still have a long way to go.

WHAT STRAIN WAS IT WHEN I FLIPPED?

1- Mango (Hybrid).... Parents = Mango (Indica) +KC33 (Hybrid)
3- Power Wreck (Hybrid).... Parents = Power Plant + Train Wreck
1- Betty..... Parents Unknown .... Received this plant from a neighbor and it was actually suppose to be part of my 3rd grow.

WHAT WAS ADDED AND WHAT WAS BEYOND SALVAGING?

1- Mango...... It just was beyond help and I felt it was kinder to put her out of her misery.
1- Harlequin.... donated to the cause by "Wifeygrower"

In the Veg tent =
At the moment, nothing but a terrible mess. Today is veg tent salvage day one, clean out and wash completely. Get everything ready for grow #3 which I will be starting from seed and possibly a few clones.

Plants are from clones I bought from a local dispensary except the Betty which was a clone from a friends mother. He gave me 3, I kept 1 for myself and gave 2 to my brother who is also growing. The Harlequin is a clone from the Harlequin my brother had bought.

Flowering plants are exactly 14 days since flipping 12/12
Vegging plants are all dead, though I will be replacing them shortly once I am able to get the salvage underway a bit further.

Indoors or outdoors?
Indoors. Flowering in 5x10x6.5 tent Veg in 4x4x6.5 tent.

Size and type of Light?
Flowering with 2 non-sponsor LED's and 1 sponsored LED-- 1 was a freebie from my neighbor (used) 357 watts and 1 325 watt (New) the sponsored LED is a Mars-Hydro II 900

Vegging with 1 4 foot T-5 HO 8 lamp fixture running 8 blue spectrum lamps. Which is presently off until it is needed again.

Temp of the tents?
Flowering tent = degrees
Veg tent = degrees
I do not have accurate temperatures as of yet, I have not been checking or reseting tent Temps/RH% but will start today.
Present outside temp is 30 degrees F.

RH?
Flowering tent = %
Veg tent = %
Same as Temp, will be starting to record them today.

Any pests?
None that I am presently aware of. Was going to mention that the wife "SWMBO" can be a pest sometimes but I am pretty sure that is not the type of pest this question is asking.

Type of Nutrients and strength?
I am going to be doing something a little different on this grow. I have added Cal/mag to the mix as well as Armor Si a silica for plant growth enhancement. Shout out to Stage for that recommendation. I will also be using FF basic 6

Pot size?
In Flower=
Power Wrecks are in 7 gal. cloth pots while the Harlequin and Betty are in a 5 gal. cloth pot.
In Veg=
none at the moment

Medium =
FF Ocean Forest potting soil.

Ventilation?
Flowering tent = 6x24 Can Carbon filter with a vortex VTX-800 fan controlled by a TMP-DNe controller for exhaust and a 4 inch inline fan for fresh air. For horizontal air flow I have 3 oscillating fans running in the tent. 1 down at floor level, 2 that is at canopy level. I would like to get a few more so I can turn them down and get better flow without whipping the closest plant like it was in gail winds.
Veg tent = 1 fan for horizontal air movement aimed just above canopy and bottom of lights. I keep 2 of the 3 bottom air vents open at all times and also keep top vent holes open for rising heat to escape.
But presently am not running until I start grow #3.

Watering?
This has been an issue up till now on this grow, life has been quiet hectic till now so I was lucky to look in on the girls every 3 sometimes 4 days. When I would look, if I had time, I would water them right away, if I was in a rush I was watering them at the end of the day when I got back home. In all honesty, it is truly amazing that any of these plants survived at all. At least 2 separate times I literally looked and said to myself, crap I killed them all they were that thirsty. They were so limp and droopy I was even amazed that they responded at all. I have only been watering with 1 teaspoon of Cal/mag and 1 teaspoon of Armor Si, 1/2 teaspoon of Open Sesame PH'ed to 6.5

A little back story, then lets begin the salvage.

It had all started the day I planned to flip the girls. I had 2 plants which showed signs of powdery mildew from when they were in the veg tent and from being so over crowded without proper air circulation. I researched a few quick simple solutions and decided to use a baking soda, dish soap wash to kill the spores I only has a few leaves that I could actually see the PM on but I knew that the spores are so small if you do not kill them all it will return. One thing that I was aware of was that the spray should be done right before I turn the lights off for the evening to prevent burning due to the lights being so close over wet leaves. So here is where I made my 1st major mistake, I had to go out to my brothers and was not sure when I would be getting home, so I sprayed them down, quiet heavily by the way before I headed over to my brothers. That was right when the lights turned on. I did not even look into the tent until 2 days maybe 3 days later. Everything was fried. When I first looked it looked like every single leave was burnt, so I basically said screw it and walked away. Over the next couple of weeks I would peek in and find them extremely thirsty. I originally was going to say screw it and start all over but when I saw how sad they looked, I felt compelled to at least give them a drink. This continued right up till yesterday. I started by going in and accessing the damage I had caused. Right away I could see that the Mango was is a very bad way, much worse then all the rest. She may have been able to be saved but her yield would have been so low I could not justify keeping her. Off to the compost pile she went, to complete the cycle of life. The Betty is looking pretty sad herself, but since she is smaller and takes up less room I decided to keep her for the time being. I considered leaving the burnt leaves since there were so many, but then decided they had to go. With as many burnt leaves as I had, there would be no way to ever see if I was having any kind of deficiency because so many leaves were already looking terrible. When I started I tried to keep all the leaves and branches I removed neatly in a tray but it was not long before I realized that was a bit of a pipe dream. So here are a few pictures of the 1st big push to clean things up.

I have the plants about 95% cleaned up, there are a few small leaves that still need to be cleaned out but I ran out of time and I feel I got the majority of the plants pretty well cleaned up. I am sure my yield will suffer due to what has happened, but my logic at this point is some yield is better then no yield.

For those who suffered through to this point, I thought I would add a few pictures of a bud or two from my last grow. As many of you may already know I used the bud wash technique on my last grow and will be doing a taste comparison once it is fully cured. I am still about 6 weeks out from doing that test, though when it is done I will post my results. I actually have enough non-washed to do a 1/2 finished cure taste test and a full cure taste test so that may be in the works also.
Here are a few pictures of a couple of buds from grow #1

re: Salvaging Grow #2 Using LEDs For Flower & T5's For Veg

Ok so I should have posted the 1st post yesterday, but I am still scrambling to get this grow to a point where it is salvageable. I toke pictures of each plant with the LEDs off so you could see what kind of shape each plant is in. After taking a really good look at the Betty, I decided it was best to say good-bye to Betty and go with the best 4 plants.

these are the 4 I decided to go with and see if I can salvage some sort of crop from.

As you can see, I do not have a whole lot of room to work with on my lights.

Subscribed OlderGrower, looks like I get my pick of front row seats? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Congratulations on MOTM :Namaste: :adore:

Ok so day 16 is here and while I still not completely addressed all my issues things are starting to get back to normal, or as normal as I can hope for.

Temps were not idea as we the RH% but I will start working on those issues soon.
Last nights highs and lows were High = 85/40% and Lows = 61/31%
All in all not bad considering the temp outside but would be better if it did not dip so low.

I have my lights about max'ed out as far as height goes, which looks like I should be ok with that. I am posting a shot of how I have my lights set up for this grow. You will notice I do have the Mars-hydro light at an angle since I culled the Betty I do not have the foot print I did before.

I do need to run a few errands for my brother today, but I am hoping I will be able to squeeze in a little time to work some on the veg tent today to get it back up and running. Just grateful I cleaned the cloner up before I put it away. One less thing to have to do now.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures today, I did not shut the fans off like I normally do and believe that is part of the reason the pictures are not of the best of quality.
So here is how my garden is looking today.

Thanks for the update & a nice smile

Well tank you right back for the links in your signature. I am terrible at trying to find anything on this site. I have tried doing searches but apparently I am not smart enough to figure that out, I mostly rely on links in peoples signatures and todays posts to help me locate stuff I am looking for.

:hug::love::hug:

Hi, OlderGrower!

Love your new avatar and title, and is your user name now Upper and lower case? Spiffy!

I love your nug-filled update and the amazing nug art you've done! This should be a thing, if it isn't already :)

I am always grateful for the extra links in peoples' signatures -- sometimes it's hard to find our way around this amazing site! There's so much information in different places that it can be confusing finding it sometimes, in spite of the great efforts of the folks who administer it :) Just too much going on, I guess!

I know what you mean about so much going on, I wish I could clone myself so I could spend more time reading everything that is going on.

nice dank stank you got there OG Congrats
Thanks G00ch, I still need to get over to your garden and see how your harvest turned out. You had such frosty ladies and fat buds. Makes me want to break out into song "I love a big BUD and I can not lie" Oh wait a sec, that was Butt not bud. Oh well I love both :circle-of-love:

Hey there my friend.
Despite the hard time they have had, your ladies look well. Nug porn pit a good smile on my face, they are some big nugs.

Much love my friend :hug::love::hug:

Thank you my friend, trust me, they looked pretty sad to begin with. Ok that would be a nice way to put it, they looked like shit
I am looking forward to my photo shoot with my new shirt, granted it will not be as cool as the santa suit, but I think you especially will enjoy it.:circle-of-love::high-five::circle-of-love:

17 days since flipping.
Watered this morning, used 1 ml of Cal/mag 1 ml of Silica 1/4 teaspoon of open sesame and 1/4 teaspoon of Beastie Bloom per gallon of water.
Part of my plan on salvaging this grow is to use less and re-act less. Also I will be swaying from the FF feeding schedule though I will be using their products just not at the schedule they suggest.

I am seeing frost starting to develop on 3 of the 4 plants, though the Harlequin Plant appears to be slightly behind in development. It is catching up with bud sites but just not as far as frost. It is still early plus this strain is a high CBD strain so it is quiet possible that it will grow differently then a high THC strain. I will find out soon enough.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and their weekends are safe dry and warm :green_heart:

ACK! I am a terrible friend not seeing this thread till now. Good to see you back on the horse OG! Your garden is not just going to be salvage, you have done a good trim job and will have a nice set of flowering plants. They are already showing good trichomes and bud sites. BTW those first bud pics are amazingly huge.
Thanks Shiggity,
BTW those bud pics are NOT amazingly huge, they are a fair sized. Look again my friend, it is an optical illusion.
Only just noticed this new journal OG, those buds from your last grow look delicious!
Well done on the successful salvage operation so far :high-five: shame you lost one to the compost but the other girls look like they will be well and truly thriving again in no time. I'm sure your yield won't be affected too much with your skills.

Thanks Narrator for the compliment. Though at this stage of the game, they cut in yield that has ben lost can not be salvaged. Perhaps had I left everything in veg until my family crisis was over then I could have done more for the yield, but once I put them into flower, that was the game changer.

It may be time to do a taste test. I originally had figured around the end of February, so the 1st grow would have plenty of time to cure but perhaps a early pr-test would be worth checking into. I am sure both my brother and my neighbor will not object to some free smoke.

I just stumbled on your new journal, OG. Sorry I missed the beginning of it.
You have more than a salvage job. Things are looking good in there. Here's hoping you can finish in style!

Yea man my harvest was epic, I didnt get a chance to finish the journal on here but,i ended up getting over 400 grams from 4 plants, I did the bud washing on all except the himdu cause i had a problem right at harvest but all the others got washed, they are curing now and taste amazing, i kep the colas from the wonderwoman and did not wash them and gave out taste test with one bud from each in separate bags labeled 1 and 2 asked which people preffered and why, all preffered the washed because it tasted better/cleaner and the high was fire, the other was kinda harsh still fire though. As soon as i can post pics i will

Nice haul my friend, I need to break out and take a picture of my combined total as well, just been busy as all get out. Started work today but will have Fridays off so perhaps I will do a personal taste test this weekend now that my drug test is out of the way.
Between my brother and this new job I do not have near the time I use to, though I am working on getting a schedule figured out where I can squeeze more time in for the site.
Will do a complete update by this weekend.

Good news, I started work this week, took my drug test on Monday and should be working for at least 2 months so I have 4 weeks I can enjoy the fruits of my labor. I am working a 4 10 shift so I get Fridays off which is nice, so yesterday I decided it was time to do the bud wash taste test. Finally after all this wait I was going to get to fire it up and find out for myself, to bad I had a small adventure right out of the gate that would screw the whole test all to hell.

so here is how I started my taste test. The plan was to pick a bud and smoke a hit, enjoy it for say an hour or so then fire up the second hit from a different bud, one which had not been washed. My original plan was smoke the washed 1st then the unwashed yesterday then reverse it today just incase being high effected how I perceived the taste, each would get the chance to be 1st.
Get the needed tools for the test-
IMG_132129.jpg

Now to get a volunteer from my collection of washed buds who was willing to partake in this challenge-
IMG_132426.jpg
IMG_132328.jpg

Luckily I was able to find a volunteer and it was up to the challenge. It climbed into the grinder without so much as a whimper.
IMG_132224.jpg
IMG_132628.jpg

A couple of twists and this bud was ready to climb into the bowl and boldly go where no unwashed bud had gone before- Into my bong for science.

Much to much fuel for this mission, the capacity of the lungs will not be able to maintain this capacity SOS!!!!!

Great, not the way I wanted to start this test, within seconds I am soooo fucking high. Hmm perhaps I should run out to the kitchen and grab a 2nd cup of coffee, that should mellow me out just a tad to get me back to planet earth. Oh look the dishes need to be loaded into the dishwasher, perhaps I should do that now, oh wait, the dishwasher is full of clean dishes. Once the dishes are all put away and the washer reloaded its back to the grow room. Oh I know, today would be a great day to start getting my veg tent all set up for my next grow, lets get started, oh wait where is my coffee? Back to the kitchen I go. OK coffee in hand, yep Portland we are back on track time to get started, oh wait, where is my cell phone, there it is, better have that with me just in case. Time to get back to the veg tent. Gee I suppose I should call on my brother and make sure him and his wife are doing OK this morning, just in case. Here is how that conversation went "Hey Al how is Linda doing this morning?"
Al-"She is doing good this morning, I am on the phone with mom right now, making this a conference call" CICK
Mom- "Hi Ed what are you doing this morning?"

Needless to say, it was an interesting conversation to say the very least. My mind was racing all over the planet.
Summary of the bud wash test? Redo, take a smaller hit, make sure all phone calls are out of the way for the day
and enjoy. Before taking that hit, my whole body was in pain, I haven't done much strenuous labor since April and my new job is brutal. Working outside in the weather climbing on steel I-beams installing heat trace all day. After the hit, my body felt no pained I was not even stiff or sore. It was truly a great feeling. The 1st hour though I was way higher then I prefer to get, but once I came down to the stratosphere I enjoyed the day immensely.

I took this pictures my flower tent when I was high yesterday so I am sure they are far from quality, but figured I would include them as well before I start on the restart of the bud wash taste test attempt number 2.
