MedMar Healing Center announces that the dispensary is continuing their tradition of helping others with their 2nd annual Holiday Food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. The drive will run until January 20th and the center urges all those in the community to help the cause.

Second Harvest Food Bank serves over 240,000 people each month–10% of the people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties–and distributes over 45 million pounds of food per year, mainly to local seniors and families with dependent children. Since the recession hit in 2007, the number of people served by Second Harvest has skyrocketed 48%, but donations have fallen over the last couple of years.

There are 15 cannabis clubs participating in the Second Harvest Food Drive. Douglas Chloupek, a representative from MedMar, explains why the organization continues to spend the time and energy to support causes such as this. "Every little bit helps, so we are doing our best to facilitate charity among our members. It is easy to turn a blind eye to those that are less fortunate and we believe going that extra mile makes a big difference."

Medmar is incentivizing members as well and giving a $1 store credit for every can received (up to 5 cans per member per day). The most-needed items are meals in a can (stew, chili, soup), tuna and canned meat, peanut butter, canned foods with pop-top lids, low-sugar cereals, 100% fruit juices in single-serving boxes, canned fruit packed in juice, and canned vegetables. MedMar is also accepting cash donations that will be passed along to Second Harvest.
