Setting up for a new grow.. a SSSC Strawberry Cookies & a Dutch passion Sugar Bomb Punch
But for headline purposes I went with all the S's.
Time for sweet dessert strains as well I've got jars of earthy skunk as a main course for the foreseeable future so I probably won't mind these for the new year.
They were on sale at Dutch Passion with a buy one get one free deal.
From ordering to delivery was 24hrs, but I only live a stone throw away so your mileage will vary.

I'll be Sipping under a Sanlight EVO 3

And I'm planning on using this and water until flower.
Plagron Royalmix & Perlite, Great White Premium Myco, Canna Calmag
I also have a tiny bit of Bionova Profimix left which I might use.
And the Biocanna Rhizotonic is also nearly finished, I'm gonna use that up in the seeding & rooting process as well.

Setting up the pots and well this is a thread for lazy growers the objective is to do so in such a way that I'm pretty much hands off once I planted the seed until I can start manipulating the plant.
A SIP is a great tool for this as I just need to time the first filling of the reservoir

Fill the SIP with "soil" & perlite mix, I've haven't used hydropebbles as an intermedium this time Azi!
Then I put the ring on top press it down a bit and fill that 284 style in alternating layers of perlite and soil.. I mist soak each layer through with rhizotonic so there's plenty of moisture present in that area for the seedling to go hunt. I don't wet the rest of the soil yet, I activate that the first time I fill the reservoir

Done! Now I'm waiting for the seeds to crack.
And I've put a smartpot and transplanted a small cutting that's still alive and flowering from the previous plant.
Gonna try to get it back to vegging but survival chances are slim as she was in bad shape not much root to speak off. I put a bit of Great White on the transplant.

A SIP grow? I'm in! :thumb:
Yeah back in the SIP club.
I'm curious if I'm going to notice a difference now there's a lot more fert holding soil in the pot without the pebbles, but the roots didn't mind the pebbles as they fill up all the space in between.
Maybe more stable, since all the roots are now in the same zone & ph..

Not sure if I understand the use of the ring ?

And the dry SIP will wick the moisture out of the ring...

If you are planting the seed directly into the ring you will have to keep that soil moist....

Normal procedure is to fill the reservoir a day before transplanting from a solo cup, I would assume that works for a germinated seed also ?

Cheers

To provide a rooting area that's not high in nutrients for the young roots by the time they reach the normal soil they already have some age & girth.. and it's layered with perlite like Bill's pots or cups and I feel it just creates a fast rooting area and last time I had really big stems that way.
And I find it holds moisture pretty well probably because there's a layer of perlite separating the main pot and the other layers. I prewater it before planting seed, and then I find I just have to provide it one watering until I fill the res.
It's a lazy way of uppotting :) Some roots will think they're in a small cup but the tap roots gonna be like this thing doesn't end, it goes on for days! weeks even.

Okay ;)

Handles the higher nutrient value of the rest of the soil !

Cheers
Yeah that, and that setup now would also be ideal to plant some clover and mouse ears around the ring on the soil, but I don't got any, I covered the top with pebbles again so the light doesn't shine directly on the soil.
But I wanna try that in the future.
Another bonus I found is I can still rotate the seedling to align the branches so she's straight in the pot and I can keep my sip spouts facing forward :)

Punched hole in the dirt, scooped some Great White in and dropped in the seeds
This is the Strawberry Cookies, still small but I crack in water so I don't let them in there for too long, this gives me already enough directionality and she's gonna be in ideal temperature in the dirt versus the glass.
Now we wait..

Euhm... I fed the cutting to the cats, it wasn't doing too great, can't handle any light, would have been a very long road to recovery and then I don't got any room for her unless I put her somewhere else under the Mars, but then I'm spending money which is gonna be a lot more than getting more of those beans next year.
The cats were happy though it was gone quite fast.

Now I can focus on the Strawberry & Punch without worrying if it's okay for the other.
I got the light at 76w and hoisted up high they're getting 250ppfd round the clock for a DLI around 21.

All I do now is occasionally mist & spray the tent walls so I get at least a bit of humidity as I got Afghanistan levels of RH at my place.
I haven't watered yet but I'm thinking about mixing up a glass of Rhizotonic & Great White and taking the syringe and inoculate the ring some more, maybe tomorrow.

Made the glass of Rhizotonic 2ml mixed with a teaspoontip of Great White.
And used the syringe to dose around the ring. Good thing I did, if I poured it, it would have run over the ring into the pot as the top layer was hydrophobic.
They both got around 150ml of solution.
