Slammy Pajammy's Indoor Organic Supersoil Ladies, 2019! 2nd Ever!

Hey SP. A great idea to get get some more going on the side. Giving your big girls some time to get themselves together again. I recognise that leather leaf look (probably feels a bit like cardboard?) from ahemsperience of survival outside the VPD. Juices get a little viscous and torpid. New growth will give you leaves that work just fine again.

Today's Update
(GSC Day 85, WW Day 75):

Temp: 19-27 degrees Celsius
RH: 30-45%

Slowly but surely recovering! Gonna get another tea brewing up today for a watering tomorrow. I'll brew a little extra and start applying teas to the rest of my soil periodically as well, to keep it all cooking. I'm so surprised how much of a beating these plants can take!

Meanwhile, two of the 5 little baby white widows have broken ground! Hopefully they speed up a little bit, they've been kind of slow to sprout. Just gotta be patient I guess!

Tea time!

So I figured I would brew up another nitrogen-fixing tea to continue to propel us through veg. I put a small amount of coconut meal in for the potassium (in case the roots took some damage in the starve), but not too much as potassium can cause lockout of other vital nutrients

I also took a break from the alfalfa meal this time, as I've read some people have had issues burning their plants with alfalfa. I've got some soybean meal for nitrogen, so might as well switch it up. Here we go!

Reasonably equal parts:
- malted barley (microbe source)
- kelp meal (all-round minerals and growth hormones)
- soybean meal (nitrogen source)
- small amount of coconut meal (potassium source)

20191116_184414.jpg

Ground it all up together

20191116_184728.jpg

And added roughly an equal amount of EWC

20191116_184756.jpg

Then dropped it into my strainer bags, into a molasses water mixture, and got it bubbling away

20191116_185100.jpg

We'll brew it for about 24 hours to get it balanced between the bacteria and fungi growth, and will give it to them tomorrow!

Interesting! It certainly does seem to be getting better now that our humidity isn't so extreme. What an amazing and resilient plant to be learning about all of these biological processes and interactions from. Our humidifier is unfortunately delayed, so I've been lucky that it's still stayed in a more acceptable range than 15-20%, but I'd like to get it closer to 60% for these poor ladies!

Today's Update (GSC 86, WW 76):

temp: 22-28 degrees Celsius
RH: 30-35%

Tea was looking nice and frothy after about 24 hours

20191117_204258.jpg

So I gave them both about 2L each of today's tea before they started to feel a little moist down below and pots are nice and heavy. Might try to get closer to 3L in next time after a good dry out. But that's ok this time, cuz it's left me a nice little excess of tea for the rest of the soil! Looking pretty good now!

Three little babies have now broken ground! The other two didn't sprout, so I've got a couple fresh seeds soaking! But we'll have plenty in the coming weeks now! :thumb:

Yesterday's pics:

The cab ladies are starting to pray to the light! Time to crank her back up again! The lights have been turned down to make it a little easier on them while they recover, but I think they can handle it now! Pots are still heavy, not ready to brew a tea yet

Seedlings are looking good! Lil stretchy, so I'll turn the lights up a little bit. Currently they've got my Viparspectra par450 on them, set at about 30% on all 3 spectrums. Wetted down the peat moss a little cuz it was starting to dry up

Really nice colour coming back to the cab ladies, and the seedlings are shooting up! Temps should be back down to high 20's in a couple days, so she'll be right

20191121_210600.jpg

This seedling looks a little wonky...
20191121_210626.jpg

I think some of the membrane from under the seed shell got stuck and kind of constricted one cotyledon, so she wasn't able to grow evenly. Wonder how she'll go compared to the others

This one popped a huge taproot in the paper towels SO fast! Planted her yesterday, and today she's breaking ground!
20191121_210613.jpg

I soaked 3 seeds, a mix of 2 ww and 1 gsc, but didn't label them for fun... I'm suspecting this is that one. The gsc definitely seems to be more vigorous genetics. We'll keep an eye on this gurl!

Today's Update (GSC 91, WW81)

o_O still so hot here, I'm COOKING!

-plant temps: 29-37 degrees Celsius

-RH: 30-35%

Still looking good! Pots are starting to feel a little lighter, so probably will be ready to start brewing a tea tomorrow for a watering Sunday

Yesterday's Update (GSC 91, WW 81)

Temp: 28-36 degrees Celsius
RH: 35%

Still hot here! I had JUST got my A/C unit set up on evaporative cooler mode to raise the humidity while dropping temp, and we had TRAGEDY STRIKE!! :'O

Somebody broke the window lock on the window into the plant room, and came back the next day to have a good go at breaking the lock off our front door... No idea if they actually knew what they would find, or if it was just some opportunists. But we are on super red alert now and had to completely restructure the house and the plant setup in a day . So much for a relaxing weekend recovering from the flu my missus gave me. But everything important is quadruple locked up and the whole house should be entry proof. Still going to get some cameras set up everywhere though...

ANYWAY....

Pots are starting to feel a little light! Time to get a tea brewing! Today's tea will be a tiny bit of alfalfa meal, some soybean meal, a little more kelp meal, and some malted barley

20191123_194601.jpg

Mixed up with equal parts EWC

20191123_194738.jpg

Then into the molasses water for a 24 hr brew!

20191123_195749.jpg

.... this one is still wonky ... but growing! I think the mini cotyledon has slowed her, but maybe she'll pick back up once she gets another couple good leaves to start photosynthesing for her. We'll see! Good experiment!

20191123_195727.jpg

This one is gong to kill it! I'm going to keep an eye on her, cuz I think she is the only girl scout of the bunch, and i preferred the smoke from the last GSC :thumb:

20191123_195806.jpg

This one just broke ground this morning!!! Looking great!!

Sounds like someone is casing you... be careful. This is one of the reasons that I have a big dog and definitely the reason that I keep a gun near my bedside and another in the basement near the grow room. You can never be too careful.

Yep, maybe this will help push my missus off the fence about getting a dog :thumb: . Cameras are going up tonight, so that gives me a little more peace of mind. Guns are a little harder to come by here haha. Hopefully everybody gives up and this is the end of the drama!

Yesterday's update (GSC 92, WW 82)

Temp: 26-30 degrees Celsius (the new location is a little cooler... sweet!)

RH: 32%

Yep, they were definitely ready for that tea today, perfect timing! They are happily taking the lights at 100%, and looking greener every day! What a bounce back! It has been a month of recovery, but still! I'm impressed! Let's see how they go from here! Can't wait to start seeing some real vigorous growth again so I can do a bit of training... I have been gently spreading them open pretty regularly, just to encourage that lateral growth and help some light penetrate down into them

I also picked off all the dried up dead leaves after the pics (why not before? Couldn't tell you. Terrific planning) so they are looking much better and back to healthy! I won't see them for a couple days, so i can't wait to see how they will be when i get back to them!

Hmm looking at these all blown up, that new growth looks a little twisty. Calcium maybe? Can I brew a tea with some of my calcium/crustacean blend? Maybe we'll try that next time just for fun

The biggest two seedlings got up-potted yesterday! I would've gone something smaller first and then maybe up to these pots, but I didn't have anything on hand and wanted to get in and get it done before I left. C'est la vie!

20191124_225413.jpg

Hopefully Hungry will get what she wants from that soil now! The others are all looking great! Even Wonky is still trying her damnedest to grow. You can do it!

Today's Update (GSC 95, WW 85):

Temp: 28-34 degrees Celsius

RH: 30%

Huh.... they don't really seem to be growing all that much. They are definitely recovering and looking better, but that explosive growth I was hoping for still hasn't happened. I know their metabolism slows down quite a bit above about 30 degrees, but I'm suspecting they are a little stunted from the starving...

Pots are feeling light and ready for water soon, so got another tea brewing today

20191128_191646.jpg

Today's tea is a mix of soybean meal, crustacean blend, malted barley, and a small amount of high phos guano, as I'm thinking about giving them the ol' flip and freeing up the cab for some of these new ladies!

I can't even believe how quickly these ladies are popping up! Got the other 3 potted up to bigger pots cuz they are speeding up and I don't want them to get hungry! As usual, sprinkled some mycorrhizae powder into the hole before putting the ladies in, and then gave them a little water with some seaweed extract mixed in

Well, I've given up on getting these ol gals back to big and proper. They just aren't growing anymore and I've got some fresh ladies who will quickly be needing the space in the cab. So flippy flippy time! Switched the timer on so tonight we are going from 24h to 12h!

I have no idea what Will happen, or even if they'll produce anything after being stunted so badly, but that's all part of the fun! Either way, I'll have plenty more on the way soon

Decided to make up some of @Emilya 's DIY CalMag today with all the egg shells I've been saving up! Had a free day with the missus at work, so perfect time to stink up the kitchen! :thumb:

and split it between to mason jars, so I can add 5 parts vinegar and still have room for the foaming

20191130_134254.jpg

That was close!!

Sat for most of the day as the foaming settled. Now they're jarred up with some fermentation lids that I had already made up for when I ferment peppers and other veggies, and I'll let them go for roughly three weeks!
